About The Position

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. you will design mechanical systems and components, along with their associated specifications and manufacturing processes, to produce new products the Company and its customers.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering design or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in the mechanical and industrial design aspects of product development.
  • Communication skills needed to interface with the customer on technical discussions.
  • Experience with the design of custom plastic components and assemblies using different manufacturing techniques, particularly injection molding.
  • Experience with the design and fabrication of metal components and assemblies – sheet metals, casting, extrusions, etc.
  • Strong skills in creating 3D CAD models and associated drawings using tools such as Solidworks.
  • Familiarity with industrial design concepts and their application to product development.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements that may affect the design – ISO, UL, and IEC.
  • Ability to identify and execute design tasks with a minimum of supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work between multiple departments in carrying out this position’s duties.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the mechanical and/or industrial design aspects of the design and development of electronics-based products.
  • Serve as mechanical lead on smaller electronics-based product development projects – identify required development activities and direct other team members in completing those activities.
  • Develop original mechanical part and/or system designs to meet specific product requirements as part of a product development team.
  • Generate 3D CAD models, drawings, and specifications for custom mechanical components and assemblies – perform modeling analysis such as thermal simulations or FEA.
  • Work with vendors to develop component specifications, processes, and inspection criteria for mechanical parts manufactured using injection molding, sheet metal, casting, etc.
  • Identify risk areas, potential improvements, and possible alternatives during the development process, both with respect to component design and mechanical assembly.
  • Develop designs that promote efficient manufacturability and testability in production.
  • Establish design verification testing tools and methods and execute design verification activities.
  • Provide technical input to process engineers in support of production process development.
  • Document ideas, designs, specifications, and instructions to Company standards.
  • Provide mechanical engineering input to development project quoting activities.
  • Contribute to the improvement of department processes and tools, particularly those related to mechanical design and product development.
  • Mentor junior members of the engineering staff to promote design team abilities and establish good working practices.
