The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will oversee all technical activities associated with mechanical design engineering. This role includes developing new product designs based on commercial requirements, generating complete design documentation, and effectively communicating design intent to supporting teams to ensure smooth transition into production. The position also requires enhancing existing products and creating extensions to current product lines to support both simple and complex new business opportunities. Preferred experience includes knowledge of centrifugal and/or positive displacement pump design, valve design, plastic and metal component development, and fluid dynamics. Key responsibilities involve creating CAD models, performing design and mathematical calculations, conducting tolerance and stack‑up analyses, producing engineering drawings, and executing qualification testing. Additional duties include defining material and component specifications, securing agency approvals, developing BOMs, providing concurrent engineering input on assembly sequencing, releasing product and component documentation, writing laboratory test procedures, supporting research and development activities, analyzing returned products, and identifying required spare parts and kits. This role operates within a global, cross‑functional team environment, contributing to the development of advanced product solutions for the industries served by the Specialty Flow Control team. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with creativity in solving design challenges, a commitment to delivering customer value, and a passion for driving product design initiatives.

Requirements

  • Requires a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related technical area of science and research with a minimum of 5 years work experience. or a MS degree with a minimum of 2 years work experience
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with creativity in solving design challenges, a commitment to delivering customer value, and a passion for driving product design initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience includes knowledge of centrifugal and/or positive displacement pump design, valve design, plastic and metal component development, and fluid dynamics.
  • Proven demonstrated leadership experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, validation, and launch of new products and product extensions.
  • Define detailed functional requirements for new products, develop and test component designs, integrate assemblies into final configurations, and assess overall performance, cost, reliability, and safety.
  • Develop, execute, and evaluate fitness‑for‑use testing, product specifications, and process validation plans; create and review material specifications and bills of materials.
  • Provide technical direction to Drafters, Designers, and Engineering Lab Technicians assigned to project activities.
  • Collaborate closely with internal manufacturing teams, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.
  • Use CAD and CAE tools to model new concepts and generate complete, accurate engineering drawings.
  • Ensure all new products and product extensions meet safety standards, customer requirements, and applicable agency regulations.
  • Verify manufacturability of new designs by working with designers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to qualify new technologies and processes.
  • Support development teams in preparing required deliverables for Gate Review meetings.
  • Create, maintain, and organize all documentation required for new product manufacturing, including BOMs and engineering drawings; prepare ECR/ECN packages for product and component releases.
  • Assist with tooling updates and implement new tooling as needed to support new products and product extensions.
  • Ensure timely completion of all assigned tasks in accordance with established procedures and schedules.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required to support organizational objectives.
