The Senior Manager, Systems Engineering owns the strategy, reliability, and lifecycle of Frontier’s enterprise compute platforms across on-premises and hybrid cloud environments. This role leads the engineering and operations of enterprise servers, virtualization, operating systems, storage, and hybrid cloud platforms including VMware, Citrix, Microsoft Windows Server / Active Directory, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, NetApp and Dell EMC storage, Azure and AWS cloud platforms. The Senior Manager drives platform modernization through automation, infrastructure-as-code, and reliability engineering practices to ensure highly available, secure, and scalable infrastructure supporting 24x7 airline operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure or systems engineering
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in mission-critical, 24x7 environments
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations and respond to critical incidents.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
  • Deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and disciplined operational execution in a mission-critical environment.
  • Strong expertise with enterprise infrastructure technologies including: VMware vSphere / ESXi, Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, NetApp enterprise storage, Dell EMC enterprise storage, Zscaler ZIA/ZPA, Zerto and Veeam backup and disaster recovery, Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Strong understanding of: Networking fundamentals and VPN technologies, Identity and access management, Infrastructure security practices, Storage architecture and replication, Capacity planning and performance engineering.

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell

Responsibilities

  • Own the enterprise compute platform strategy across servers, virtualization, storage, operating systems, and hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Define platform standards, reference architectures, and lifecycle strategies.
  • Lead platform modernization initiatives including automation and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Establish secure configuration baselines and hardened infrastructure standards.
  • Partner with enterprise architecture and security teams to align infrastructure with Frontier’s technology strategy.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, and resilience of infrastructure platforms supporting airline operations.
  • Define and manage platform SLIs/SLOs and availability targets.
  • Drive improvements in incident response, root cause analysis, and MTTR.
  • Lead enterprise backup and disaster recovery programs using Zerto, Veeam, and storage replication.
  • Ensure DR capabilities meet defined RTO and RPO requirements.
  • Oversee monitoring, observability, and operational readiness across platforms.
  • Drive adoption of automation-first infrastructure engineering practices.
  • Implement Infrastructure-as-Code and automated provisioning.
  • Utilize tools such as Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, and Git-based workflows.
  • Standardize infrastructure deployment, configuration management, and lifecycle processes.
  • Reduce manual operations through automation and platform engineering practices.
  • Lead the evolution of Frontier’s compute platforms across data center and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Develop strategies for capacity planning and infrastructure performance optimization.
  • Ensure infrastructure platforms scale effectively to support: Airport technology deployments, Customer-facing applications, Operational airline systems, Corporate enterprise platforms.
  • Ensure infrastructure platforms meet enterprise security and regulatory standards.
  • Manage vendor relationships for infrastructure platforms including compute, virtualization, and enterprise storage.
  • Drive cost optimization through: Hardware lifecycle planning, Hybrid cloud cost governance, Storage efficiency initiatives, Vendor performance and contract management.
  • Partner with IT Finance and FinOps teams to manage infrastructure investment.
  • Deliver measurable improvements in infrastructure engineering performance, including: Platform availability targets (e.g., 99.99% uptime), Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR), Infrastructure automation adoption, Disaster recovery readiness, Patch and vulnerability compliance, Infrastructure cost optimization.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of systems engineers supporting Frontier’s infrastructure platforms.
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Manage staffing, workload distribution, and on-call rotations supporting 24x7 operations.
  • Promote technical development and collaboration across engineering teams.
  • Partner with teams across IT and operations including: Network Engineering, Security Engineering, DevOps / Application Engineering, Airport IT, Enterprise Architecture.
  • Support major airline technology initiatives including airport deployments, platform modernization, and hybrid cloud integration.
  • Travel up to 20% as required to support operational initiatives and vendor engagements.
