About The Position

The Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs directs and oversees all administrative and financial aspects of the Sponsored Programs division at the assigned facilities. The Senior Manager, Sponsored Programs operates with the goals of increasing sponsored funding levels and the output of funding proposal, as well as maximizing the use and efficacy of existing research funding dollars. Further, the incumbent develops and implements policies and methods that further these goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others

Responsibilities

  • Identifies potential donors or sources of funding and plans outreach strategies.
  • Participates in the development of grants applications and proposals.
  • Schedules and oversees planning for special events that publicize the organization and its programs to the community.
  • Trains, mentors, and supervises sponsored programs staff members, and prepares performance reports.
  • Negotiates contractual provisions with potential partners.
  • Develops and provides reports or documentation needed to secure and maintain funding and grants.
  • Ensures that grants and contracts adhere to organizational standards.
  • Acts as department expert and primary point of contact on funding issues and disputes.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
  • Directing all administrative and financial aspects of the Pre-Sponsored Programs division (Front End)
  • Increasing sponsored funding levels and improving the output and quality of funding proposals.
  • Developing and implementing policies that enhance proposal competitiveness and compliance.
  • Budget Creation for complex studies such as IIS, NCI, and ETCTN.
  • Tracking and follow-up on studies submitted in IBIS.
  • Maintaining communication with ORA until CTAs are executed and studies are financially opened
  • Proposal Development: Ensuring submissions are compliant, competitive, and aligned with sponsor and institutional requirements.
  • Contract Negotiation: Working with external partners to finalize terms.
  • Staff Supervision: Leading a team of pre-award specialists and mentoring junior staff.
