About The Position

Sr. Manager, R&D Communications (Global Development Lead) The Sr. Manager, R&D Communications will report into the central R&D Communications team while also acting as the communications lead to the Global Development organization. This person will be responsible for aligning Global Development initiatives and messaging to that of R&D. The Sr. Manager will drive internal communications strategies that inform key stakeholders on Biogen’s R&D initiatives and events with a focus on overall R&D and also specific to Global Development. This individual will partner with the Global Development (GD) leadership team to define, align and execute on communications strategies in order to drive change and maximize employee adoption of key initiatives to improve business performance. Crafting communications for change management initiatives and for other critical initiatives identified by Strategy, Portfolio and Communication (SPC) Leadership Team. Will support communications around the company’s internal R&D pipeline, and will collaborate closely with the R&D pipeline communications lead, Portfolio leaders, RDPLs Business Operations, and Global Development leaders to ensure delivery of compelling communications to key internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • This position requires a strong communications professional who demonstrates sound business judgment and work closely with senior leaders in various parts of the organization to help drive effective communications to employees.
  • Strong message development skills with an ability to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating strong, measurable pipeline communications
  • Understanding of clinical development processes, portfolio, and experience in a R&D environment
  • Grasp of medicine and scientific approaches and/or significant in the area of science behind medicine is critical.
  • Strong initiative, sense of urgency and ability to multi-task
  • Must possess the ability to think strategically and execute tactically and demonstrate a strong understanding of the operations
  • Demonstrated experience in creating strong, measurable communications that are aligned with organizational goals and strategies
  • Strong understanding of business is critical.
  • Creative and versatile professional with experience in the development and implementation of integrated communications needed.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and interact with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Degree in science and/ or communications plus 8+ years of experience in the biotech industry with Strong understanding of the business
  • Bachelor's Degree in communications and/or 10+ years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the R&D Communications team to ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders to ensure transparency of key initiatives.
  • Draft high quality messages and presentations that effectively drive the key message(s) and strategy within the Global Development organization.
  • Plan, facilitate, and send regular leadership communications and advise leadership team on communication and employee engagement plans as well as plan and execute town halls
  • Assist with the creation and review of messaging around portfolio decisions by liaising with portfolio communications lead and governance team
  • Support education around pipeline milestones through various channels including R&D notes, G8/BoD presentations, monthly portfolio reports
  • Track, monitor and report metrics related to business readiness, commitment and adoption of vision, strategic priorities and goals.
  • Responsible for pull through of messaging and strategy from R&D Communications to the Global Development organization.
  • Develop a communications plan and editorial calendar for Global Development and the execution of materials - including drafting high quality messages and presentations that effectively drive the key message(s) and strategy within the Global Development organization.
  • Develop internal communications campaigns that articulate and support the Global Development strategy - as well as influence a positive culture and engaged workforce.
  • Execute regular, multi-channel communication to inform, engage, and inspire the Global Development community.
  • Lead development of internal communications content and materials around key activities and initiatives (i.e. Town Halls, emails, video, etc.)
  • Work directly with SVP, Global Development to identify needs, objectives and strategies to creative effective and meaningful communications, including scripts, speeches and presentations
