About The Position

This Sr Manager, Operations position at Amazon.com Services LLC in New York, NY, involves owning and delivering the operational budget for a functional area, including safety, productivity, financial, and labor planning for outbound or inbound operations. The role requires strategic level/long-term planning, driving continuous improvement projects with network-wide impact, and networking with other leaders to share process improvements. Key responsibilities also include establishing objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience, as well as mentoring and developing leaders and staff. The manager will participate in recruiting and work closely with support staff across various departments to secure resources for projects. Domestic or international travel up to 50% may be required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related technical field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • In the alternative, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering, Operations, Business Administration, or a related technical field followed by 5 years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • 3 years of direct management experience, including a salaried workforce, in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or logistics environment
  • 3 years of experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean methodologies
  • 3 years of experience with the full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions and terminations

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver the operational budget for functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning, and operational goals for outbound, or inbound operations
  • Responsible for providing strategic level/long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months out) including labor planning, rate forecasting, and peak season planning
  • Drive continuous improvement projects to optimize operations and improve productivity to meet and exceed business objectives; works on strategic projects that have total building and networkwide impact. Effectively leverage the Operations and Area Managers to solicit ideas and understand problems and challenges in the building.
  • Network with other leaders across the network to solicit and share process improvements and drive efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Establish objectives and metrics for safety, quality, productivity, and customer experience
  • Set clear goals and expectations for Operations and Area Managers. Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds leaders accountable
  • Mentor and develop leaders and staff
  • Participate in recruiting to identify and evaluate associates and internal/external candidates for promotion and hire.
  • Work closely with support staff (HR, Finance, Maintenance Engineering, Safety, IT and other leaders) to build and secure support and resources for projects and initiatives
  • Domestic or international travel up to 50% to perform role responsibilities may be required
