The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Depuy Synthes is recruiting for a Sr Manager of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) to be located in Raynham, MA. This position will also be responsible for nearby facilities EH&S staff and contractors JOB SUMMARY Responsible for site Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S), including ensuring operations are in compliance with federal, state, and local EHS&S regulations. Manages a team of individual contributors and is accountable for conducting effective performance management. Develops tactical, operational, and resource plans for the EHS&S team and supports organizational objectives and business goals. Directs operations for strategic initiatives and serves as a primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, including commercial, R&D, supply chain, and other functional areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of EH&S related experience
  • Direct supervisory and strong stakeholder management experience is required.
  • Demonstrated project management skills are required and individual must have technical/working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.
  • Ability to define and implement solutions with limited direction from his/her manager.
  • Creativity to anticipate customer needs and develop resourceful solutions to meet needs with limited resources.
  • Strong communication (written & verbal), problem-solving, influence, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence management.
  • Ability to provide support to multiple customers/business units.
  • Ability to anticipate customer needs.
  • Ability to explain complex issues and requirements in an easily understood manner.
  • Classroom instructor skills are required.
  • Ability to produce & maintain project schedules & budgets.

  • Experience is required in identifying, evaluating and controlling EHS&S risks in the workplace.
  • Ability to quickly interpret complex regulatory issues and provide recommended course of action.
  • Ability to work in a matrix, team oriented environment.
  • Ability to lead local EHS&S professionals and manage additional multi-site EHS&S resources.
  • Ability to wear personnel protective equipment and other equipment such as lab coat/clean room gown.
  • Must follow applicable local regulations & Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical device manufacturing/R&D (highly desirable) or related industry with strong regulatory oversight.
  • Technical experience in diverse EHS&S areas including but not limited to air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and chemical handling is highly desirable.
  • CSP, CIH, REM, CHMM or related EH&S certification preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Internet, intranet and database tools (internal and external) as needed to support the EHS&S function preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Shared responsibility with Plant Manager(s)/Site Leader(s) for EH&S performance at each site, including development and implementation site management action plans to address EHS&S program deficiencies and ensure EHS&S regulatory compliance.
  • Develop EHS&S objectives for each site - auditing, analyzing, documenting, and reporting on their implementation and effectiveness to management via dashboards & reports.
  • Manage site EH&S professionals and consultants at local facility.
  • Set and monitor goals/objectives/assignments, provide adequate coaching/counseling, develop and monitor employee development plans, and provide recommendations as part of the succession planning, appraisal, and salary planning processes.
  • Monitor and evaluate EH&S risks of operations, including change management, ensuring continuous improvement of the EHS&S program to make it leaner and more efficient.
  • Provide upper management with ongoing consultation pertaining to EHS&S regulations and identify any impact on key business objectives.
  • Support and facilitate site EHS&S teams to ensure implementation of the EHS&S program; including collaborating with other functions to manage EHS&S aspects of external manufacturers, suppliers, and contractor programs.
  • Develop and implement EHS&S training strategy for each site, ensuring key risks and regulatory requirements are addressed for appropriate audiences, including new hires.
  • Maintain ISO 14001 certification by ensuring site EHS&S management systems are aligned & maintained consistent with the ISO standard.
  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.
  • Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability practices as applicable.
  • For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition.
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties assigned as needed.
