The Sensor Substrates group within the Research and Development (R D) organization designs and develops next-generation sensor electrodes and substrates, which form the foundation for biosensor design and development. These innovations significantly impact the accuracy, reliability, and robustness of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems. The team also leads the efforts to sustain the current sensor wire design used in Dexcom's industry-leading CGM products. As the leader of the Sensor Substrates team, the Senior Manager will oversee the team to deliver scalable new sensor substrate and electrode designs for both planar and wire-based products.

Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong technical background and experience in Metallurgy, electrode plating, coating, or cladding processes.
• Experience in mechanical design and characterization of electrode substrates, particularly in the medical device industry.
• Capacity to manage multiple projects and communicate ideas clearly.
• Excellent scientific communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to interpret complex data and provide clear recommendations.
• Knowledge of Quality by Design, Design for Six Sigma, and Design for Manufacturing concepts.
• Knowledgeable in medical device regulations, such as ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR 820.30 Design controls.
• Adept with statistical and data analysis tools such as JMP, Origin, Python, or R.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small R D team of scientists and engineers in designing next-generation glucose and alternate analyte electrode substrates.
• Spearhead design improvements and investigations for Dexcom's current wire electrode design.
• Support manufacturing and quality engineering in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide oversight on experimental design, execution, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Mentor and train the team on design and characterization best practices.
• Serve as a technical lead in large-scale projects requiring biosensors, instrumentation, and firmware.
• Ensure best practices in documenting design, development, and verification testing.
• Oversee the operation and safety of a working lab for fabricating prototype designs.
• Promote and observe safety, security, and quality procedures and compliance.
• Work with intellectual property counsel to document new intellectual property.
• Manage project and/or department budgets and results of other people.
• Set direction, deploy resources, and lead goal-setting, performance, compensation, and development discussions.
