Job Description SUMMARY We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Senior Manager of HRIS with deep expertise in Workday to lead our HR technology ecosystem with a strong emphasis on optimization and driving AI strategy. This role is responsible for optimizing, enhancing, and governing the Workday platform to drive operational excellence, data integrity, and seamless HR processes across the organization. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical Workday knowledge with leadership capabilities to lead a team of HRIS professionals while partnering closely with HR, IT, Finance, and business leaders to optimize Workday and embed AI capabilities that drive strategic decision-making, efficiency, and employee experience.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive HRIS experience, with at least 5 years heavily focused on Workday as a functional/technical lead or administrator.
  • 3+ years of people management experience leading HRIS or HR Technology teams.
  • Proven track record successfully leading Workday implementations, upgrades, or large-scale optimizations.
  • Strong expertise in multiple Workday modules (HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Talent, Recruiting, Payroll, Absence, Time Tracking).
  • Hands-on experience with Workday configuration, calculated fields, business processes, security domains, and reporting (Workday Prism Analytics is a plus).
  • Experience with Workday integrations (EIB, RaaS, APIs, Studio).
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Superior communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to translate complex AI and technical concepts into clear business value
  • Strategic thinking with a hands-on execution mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Workday Pro certifications (HCM, Integrations, Reporting, or specific modules) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a global or multi-country Workday environment.
  • Knowledge of HR processes and best practices across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with additional AI technologies, platforms, or vendors in the HR space.
  • Experience with additional HR technologies or middleware
  • Project management experience (PMP or equivalent a plus).

Responsibilities

  • Workday Strategy, Governance & Leadership Lead the strategy, roadmap, governance, and optimization of the Workday HCM platform, including Core HR, Compensation, Talent Management, Recruiting, Learning, Payroll, Time & Attendance, and related modules.
  • Oversee Workday and other HR systems upgrades, new module implementations, security, business process design, and tenant management to ensure scalability and alignment with business needs.
  • Define and execute a multi-year HR Technology enhancement and optimization roadmap aligned with business and HR priorities.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for complex Workday issues and manage relationships with Workday, implementation partners, and other vendors.
  • Team Leadership & Development Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of HRIS professionals (analysts, administrators, and developers).
  • Build team capabilities in both traditional Workday configuration and emerging AI/technical skills (e.g., AI configuration, integration with AI services).
  • Foster a high-performance culture with clear goals, accountability, and continuous skill development in Workday configuration, reporting, and integration.
  • Oversee workload distribution, performance management, and professional growth of the HRIS team.
  • System Optimization, Integrations & Data Governance Oversee advanced Workday configuration, business process optimization, security, and tenant management.
  • Lead major Workday initiatives including upgrades, new module implementations, integrations, and system enhancements.
  • Ensure Workday remains scalable, secure, and aligned with evolving business needs.
  • Partner with Workday Systems Engineer to oversee Workday integrations with other enterprise systems (ADP, SuccessFactors, ServiceNow, ERP, etc.) using EIB, Core Connectors, Studio, and APIs.
  • Establish and enforce data governance, accuracy, and compliance standards within Workday and other HR technologies.
  • Lead the development of advanced Workday reporting, dashboards, and analytics to support strategic HR decision-making.
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business requirements into actionable reports and insights.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Change Management Collaborate with HR Centers of Excellence (Talent, Total Rewards, Employee Relations, etc.) to identify process improvements and technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross functional M&A Teams to facilitate migration of acquired entities into TopBuild’s HR Technology platform and HR and Payroll Operations processes.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to HR leadership on Workday capabilities, AI opportunities, technology roadmaps and best practices.
  • Lead change management efforts for new features, process changes, and system updates.
