A role in Food Safety, Quality, & Regulatory (FSQR) means supporting programs and processes that help Target succeed by consistently delivering safe, high quality, and compliant food and beverages. As a Sr. Manager, Food Distribution Center (FDC) Quality Management, you will support Target’s efforts to identify, prioritize and minimize areas of quality and food safety risk as well as proactively educate and equip team members by providing simplified tools, processes, and training. You will also support Target’s Food & Beverage strategy in collaboration with Supply Chain, Field Quality Management, Food Safety, and Internal Audit teams. You will help grow the Food & Beverage business and build winning solutions for Target guests. We will support you along the way with robust onboarding, as well as personal and career development, to help you grow as a strong Sr. Manager, FDC Quality Management. You will have resources available to you as you leverage technology, metrics, reporting and communication to monitor and drive compliance in this critical area. Requirements

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in food safety, quality management or other related functions; people or functional leadership experience preferred
  • General Food Safety Knowledge. HACCP/PCQI certification preferred or ability to achieve within 6 months of hire
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate meetings, resolve conflict, build consensus, establish rapport and collaborate effectively across departments and externally
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to leverage data to influence decisions, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and distill complex issues into actionable plans based on root cause remediation
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to create transparency and confidence and influence across all levels of Target Team Members
  • Effective project management, strategic planning, and organizational skills while identifying process solutions and develop improvement plans through documented process maps
  • Ability to apply change principles and processes to effectively identify, manage, initiate, and influence adoption to change initiatives.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity, manage multiple tasks or projects and deliver consistently against timelines with minimal direction
  • Strong growth mindset and collaboration both internal and external partners at varying levels while valuing and actively seeking diverse perspectives and work styles

  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time (extensive driving)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Prolonged exposure to cold temperatures (32-50°) while working within FDC’s
  • May occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Master operational processes and key controls and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • In partnership with Quality Management and Filed Leaders, develop and maintain specifications and standard operating procedures for the FDC network and Field Inspections
  • Develop and maintain Produce, Meat and Floral quality inspection management routines, compliance metrics, and best practices
  • Anticipate and identify quality and food safety risks in Target’s Supply Chain, timely issue escalation and collaborate with internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement through documented process maps and to comply with Target requirements and federal/local regulations
  • Travel to FDCs in the field to support compliance efforts, identify and remediate impacts to quality
  • Independently represent FSQR to resolve vendor disputes (i.e., rejected freight), evaluate and develop action plans, and collaborate with vendor partners to drive awareness, education, and resolution of issues impacting our ability to accept shipment into our FDCs
  • Facilitate vendor discussions by leveraging quality metrics and current/future growth forecasts, and recommend solutions to improve overall quality for our Target guests
  • Leverage vendor scorecards to assess, identify and influence poor and superior quality performers
  • Drive Team Member knowledge and understanding of quality and food safety inspection guidelines/procedures and facilitate and maintain quality training and calibration content
  • Lead Audit Quality Management teams for procedural compliance and regularly identify individual and team opportunities for continuous learning and improvement
  • Facilitate department budget, staffing, performance, and development and provide work direction to a team of Food Quality professionals, including leaders of people, across multiple FDCs
  • Drive continuous improvement by using data visualization tools and ability to collect, assemble and manipulate data to draw trend conclusions
  • Establish strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to maintain an integrated quality system throughout Target’s Supply Chain
  • Pursue continuing education to foster and contribute to advancing global and national food safety and quality systems
  • Model and promote a culture which champion Target’s values, competencies and FSQR compliance
  • Other responsibilities to support the FSQR team, as assigned
