CNN is seeking a Senior Manager of Experimentation who will be instrumental in leading and fostering a culture of experimentation across CNN’s digital properties. This individual should be self-motivated, work well independently and as part of a team, and be passionate about what they do. The role will be responsible for CNN Digital’s A/B and multivariate testing strategy, including experiment design, prioritization, results analysis, and insights communication in close partnership with cross-functional web and app product teams. They will define both long-term roadmap and manage day-to-day strategy and execution of A/B testing efforts. The Senior Manager will be a core member of the data analytics team and report to the VP of Digital Research and Analytics.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of A/B and multivariate testing experience, serving as subject matter expert
  • Expert knowledge of A/B testing platforms, preferably Optimizely
  • Strong working knowledge of digital analytics KPIs and tools such as Adobe Analytics.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with digital Product Managers, Editorial teams, Designers, Engineering and Development, and Business Operations teams
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver complex messages to diverse audiences
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g. Looker, Domo, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience using SQL to explore and analyze large data sets
  • Ability to attract, retain, and develop data talent through caring leadership and an inclusive mindset
  • Collaborative approach to partnership
  • Comfortable communicating with a diverse set of backgrounds, seniority levels, and knowledge sets, particularly in translating complex data concepts to strategic recommendations
  • Logical mindset capable of making appropriate trade-offs between speed and analytical depth without sacrificing quality
  • A self-starter who is passionate about getting data, using data, making sense of data, and helping others benefit from making analytics driven decisions

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree or higher in Math, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field
  • Strong understanding of HTML, Javascript, JQuery, CSS
  • Strong industry knowledge of the digital consumer journey, including expertise in delivering analytics, insights, and results that inform decision making and strategy
  • Experience with digital news or relevant digital analytics experience plus strong interest in news.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments supporting strategic initiatives that drive product insights to inform decision making and prioritization of product features/enhancements that increase user engagement and retention. Lead the creation of innovative, data-driven growth initiatives to identify new market opportunities and optimize existing revenue channels.
  • Manage a small team of experimentation analysts who will design and execute experiments. Sr. Manager will be responsible for people activities such as hiring, providing feedback, developing capabilities, and building a diverse high performing team
  • Establish and lead an experimentation center of excellence, creating processes and best practices for experiment design, hypothesis definition, KPI selection, requirements gathering, experiment coordination and documentation. Train analysts and product and engineering partners on the fundamentals of experimentation
  • Collaborate with partners across the business to set priorities and establish roadmaps for supporting product development with A/B and multivariate tests
  • Establish strong and productive relationships with product management and cross-functional teams to understand the needs of the business and use that knowledge to inform experimentation strategy
  • Collaborate cross-functionally around strategic initiatives with larger Research & Analytics team to align resources and methodology with business needs
