About The Position

The Hans Haecker lab in the Division of Microbiology & Immunology is seeking a team- oriented Research Technician (Senior Lab Specialist) with interest in Immunology, Molecular Biology and mouse models related to autoimmunity and inflammation. Our laboratory offers a strong collaborative environment where you will conduct clinically-relevant research using a variety of molecular, biochemical, and cell-based technologies to understand how the innate immune system recognizes and responds to pathogens, how genetic mutations in innate immunity contribute to inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, and how obtained information can be used to develop novel therapeutic strategies. Interested candidates will assist the PI by supporting efficient laboratory operations, such as providing technical support for ongoing laboratory projects, including data collection and analysis, maintaining the mouse colony, performing minor animal surgery and assisting with general lab duties such as purchasing and equipment maintenance. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific discipline or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus four years of related full-time laboratory experience required.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Responsibilities

  • Applies independent judgment in order to assess the validity of data collected and to interpret results.
  • Devises, refines and implements new techniques or modifies existing processes by utilizing advanced knowledge.
  • Directs the daily operation of the lab including training subordinates.
  • Prepares, operates and maintains laboratory and experimental testing equipment.
  • Analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing research results.
  • May coauthor research papers and publications.
  • May represent the University by presenting research and findings to peers at conventions and conferences.
  • Supervises and manages the care and of research animals; performs minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
