This job develops, installs, maintains and supports database management systems, administration tools and other associated products on a variety of platforms. Assists in maintenance of the corporate data dictionary and database reorganizations. Consults with other IS departments on database issues, provides technical assistance to the application development staff on file design and efficient techniques for extracting data, performs database administration tasks as requested by applications development, and implements data models, database designs, data access and table maintenance codes. Resolves database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues and adheres to standards, policies and procedures. Monitors database performance, proactively performs database tuning to enhance operations or increase database availability and reliability, troubleshoots database problems, and investigates database tools that will add value to the client’s database environment. Stays abreast of emerging database technology and presents recommendations on new or upgraded database software. Requirements

  • Education Required - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Work Experience Required - 7 years in Experience as a Database Administrator or an Application Developer in a Database Environment.
  • SQL Server Requirements: · Experience with SQL Server 2012 or later versions.
  • Proficient troubleshooting skills using sql server extended events, sql server profiler and windows performance monitor.
  • Proficient in performance and tuning using query tuning, index redesigning, execution plan analysis, and sql profiler.
  • SQL AlwaysOn Availability Groups for High Availability and DR
  • Build 2 nodes and 4 nodes clusters following documented procedures.
  • Add/remove nodes to/from a cluster.
  • Fix synchronization problems for very large databases using “Join Only” method using SQL Server Management Studio “Add Database” wizard or direct T-SQL commands.
  • Monitoring availability groups using SQL AlwaysOn Dashboards or scripting.
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining stored procedures using T-SQL language. These procedures are used on our sql agent jobs to perform various tasks including database integrity checks, index reorganization/rebuild, backups and housekeeping jobs.
  • Ability to install/configure/repair/remove SQL server following documented procedures. Download and apply patches as needed.
  • Create/alter/delete logins. Role-based privilege assignments (RBAC).
  • Migrate data from one instance to another with near zero downtime using full/diff/t-log backups strategy.
  • Familiar with SQL Server Agent Jobs.
  • Refresh non-production environments.
  • Point-in-time restores.
  • Good knowledge or ability to learn basic PowerShell cmdlets.
  • Oracle Requirements: · Experience with at least 2 of 3 versions of Oracle (11g, 12c,19c).
  • Proficient in performance tuning & monitoring using AWR, ASH, ADDM, TKProf, SQL Plan Baselines, Stats Pack as well as instance optimization via parameter changes.
  • Proficient in RAC (Real Application Clusters) on EXADATA.
  • Proficient in single instance/standalone deployments.
  • Experience with ASM instances and Multitenant.
  • Proficient with Data Pump (expdp/impdp) for exporting/importing data.
  • Backup, Recovery and Cloning
  • Backup optimization for speed.
  • Proficient in database restores to most recent time and point-in-time (PITR).
  • Proficient in database cloning using RMAN DUPLICATE from active instance/backups via shell scripting and CRON jobs.
  • Proficient with RMAN DUPLICATE scenarios, each stage of the process and how to restart upon failure.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting startup problems
  • Understand startup in NOMOUNT, and MOUNT modes
  • Understand shutdown in IMMEDIATE and ABORT modes
  • Converting spfile to init.ora and vice-versa for troubleshooting invalid startup parameters/values that prevent instance from starting in both standalone and RAC configurations.
  • Experience opening SRs with Oracle and collecting required data using oracle provided instructions and tools like TKProf, AWR/ASH reports, ability to generate reports using DBMS_SQLTUNE.REPORT_SQL_MONITOR stored procedure.
  • Perform installation, configuration, and upgrades.
  • Experience with Linux/AIX operating systems and basic commands.
  • Patch instances using opatch and datapatch tools.
  • Create/alter/delete logins. Role-based privilege assignments (RBAC) based on existing users.
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of database management systems such as ADABAS and Oracle, Natural, CICS, COBOL, and database concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of MVS.
  • String knowledge of SQL Server and Oracle database management systems and database concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Strong data modeling skills.
  • Ability to move throughout and between facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Rackspace/AWS cloud migration experience
  • Azure/AWS certification for SQL Server
  • Knowledge of third-party monitoring tools specially Idera SQL Diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of import/export wizards in SSMS and bcp tools.
  • Use SSMS to connect to SSAS/SSRS instances and make changes as needed.
  • Install SQL server Management Studio (SSMS) on workstations as needed.
  • Familiarity with Olla Hallengren stored procedures for backup, index reorg/rebuild and integrity check.
