About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer focuses on the design and engineering of HVAC and mechanical utilities for buildings. The individual possesses demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks, establish priorities and direct the work of others. This position is responsible for overseeing the Mechanical discipline scope of work and managing the discipline budget on all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity, and coordinating with internal and external architects and engineers, as well as clients, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors and manufacturers. Typical tasks and deliverables that are executed by or under the supervision of the Mechanical Engineer IV include site selection, master planning, commissioning and startup, load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, design reports, code evaluations, plans, P&IDs, schedules, HAZOP reviews, installation details, equipment and system selection and specification, and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. Project work includes directing design activities for all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration. The Mechanical Engineer IV understands the development and field implementation of documents through all project phases, sizes and levels of complexity. Within this role there are multiple positions, and their focuses are described below.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Engineer with the ability to get licensed in the state of Florida (required)
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on MEP systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in GMP facility design, including cleanroom classifications and HVAC pressurization strategies.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design tools (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP).
  • In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, and other relevant codes and standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices (LEED, WELL, etc.).
  • Experience with design-build or EPCM project delivery models.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for large-scale, technically complex projects in GMP environments, including cleanrooms, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop and validate HVAC system layouts, ensuring proper pressurization, airflow control, and environmental compliance.
  • Oversee the integration of refrigeration, plumbing, and fire protection systems into cohesive MEP designs.
  • Perform and review engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and system selections.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including architects, process engineers, and construction teams.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling from concept through construction.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and lead design documentation efforts.
