Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institute of higher learning in Accounting or Finance. Masters in Finance or MBA is preferred.
7+ years of experience in accounting or finance. Non-profit accounting experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Highly proficient experience with Microsoft Excel.
Excellent communication skills. Strong networker, convener, relationship builder and communicator with experience collaborating with diverse work teams and stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information possessing skills to handle situations in a professional and diplomatic manner.
A high degree of collaboration and emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical ability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Human Care Services.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated with minimal direct supervision.
Strategic thought partnership and consultancy skills.

Responsibilities

In collaboration with program leadership, develops budget proposals and budget modifications.
Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies, funder-specific requirements and relevant financial and legal regulations for company teams and providing training and capacity building to support knowledge transfer to program and operational staff.
Oversees accounting tasks related to daily, month-end, and year-end close.
Oversees grant management for a portfolio of awards. Includes budget preparation, cost projections, report preparation, and spending analysis. Ensuring compliance with AP/AR, billing and reporting requirements.
Work with program leaders to develop fiscal year budgets for consolidation into the organizational budget.
Ensures high-quality reporting for leadership and board audiences in collaboration with -Senior the Director of Finance.
Develops and maintain relationships with funders.
Researches and develops a strong knowledge of government funding sources.
Provides guidance and supports to Financial Analysts and Staff Accountant on financial processes and reporting.
Recommends and helps implement enhancements to financial systems, workflows, and reporting capabilities.
