About The Position

General description of main/primary duties and responsibilities of the job, aptitude, level of complexity, span of control, autonomy, decision making and judgement. It is central and necessary to the satisfactory performance of the job. Includes the following and other duties as assigned. Under limited supervision, this position will: Assist with the month end closing, ensuring Accounting processes are completed timely in accordance with planned close schedules, including assisting with the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and yearly financial statements and management reporting packages. Prepare and/or review journal entries and account reconciliations, including analyzing general ledger account detail for accuracy and completeness to ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed and supported in accordance with Company policies and controls. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annually industry specific calculations, such as, Impairment, Leasehold transfers as applicable, Capital and Opex accruals, depletion and amortization (DD&A), Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO), etc. Analyze and review lease operating statements, expense variance analyses, key operating statistics, price and volume variances, and operating results on a monthly basis, if applicable. Work with both internal and external Auditors to ensure proper support and schedules are provided in order to complete quarterly and yearly audit test work. Research and apply GAAP to current and future transactions and provide manager with technical Accounting memos regarding contemplated transactions and /or Accounting issues. Interact with all Accounting personnel, other departments, and vendors in order to timely facilitate the completion of job requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Field of Study: Accounting, Business or Finance.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Public Accounting experience at a Big Four or large regional firm.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively working toward obtaining CPA license.
  • Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and the ability to apply GAAP to new and existing transactions.
  • Extensive knowledge of difficult Accounting concepts and procedures and ability to apply them to daily activities, in an increasingly complex and dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and its requirements. Experience with internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR).
  • Knowledge of Oil and Gas industry accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance and exercise good judgment when completing the tasks.
  • Ability to work under high pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Able to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities, tasks, and deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Excel including Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, and IF Statements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels and disciplines in the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior when carrying out the job responsibilities and interfacing with others.
