Summary: This role will be responsible for reviewing and attaining local and corporate objectives, implementing best practices, securing the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports and projects, and coordinating the local team with the shared services center and our corporate office. What you will do: Manage finance staff at both Southern California News Group and San Diego Union Tribune Review monthly financial results for accuracy and integrity; evaluate end of month explanation of variances (Day 7 & Day 10) Oversee accuracy of product P&L’s and Orb Handle monthly and quarterly corporate review questions Assess corporate audit questions prior to submission Own payroll portion of budget models Participate in reviewing all departmental budgets (Revenue & Expense) Maintain all payroll related reports Calculate monthly/quarterly bonus calculations for advertising VP’s, quarterly bonus calculations for Production Managers, and monthly bonus calculations for editorial photo revenue share Submit biweekly miscellaneous bonus payroll payments Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers Use logic to solve difficult problems and make timely, high-quality decisions under pressure Meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services; acts with customers in mind You will learn quickly when facing new problems; a relentless and versatile learner; open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; experiments and will try anything to find solutions; enjoys the challenge of unfamiliar tasks; quickly grasps the essence and the underlying structure of anything See hidden problems; is excellent at honest analysis; looks beyond the obvious and doesn't stop at the first answers Look toward the broadest possible view of an issue/challenge; broad-ranging personal and business interests and pursuits; easily pose future scenarios; think globally; discuss multiple aspects and impacts of issues and project them into the future Accurately scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects; set objectives and goals; break down work into the process steps; develop schedules and task/people assignments; anticipate and adjust for problems and roadblocks; measure performance against goals; evaluate results What you will bring: Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) Experience budgeting and working on online accounting systems Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required Excellent time management and planning skills, efficiently scoping projects, and prioritizing efforts Creativity with the ability to develop value-added ideas and insights in brainstorming settings Possess strong written communication: clear, succinct, and effective across all settings Comfortable with risk, can shift priorities easily, and doesn't require the entire picture to decide and take action, you remain calm when circumstances are constantly evolving
