About The Position

Provides both strategic and hands-on leadership for building operations across all venues, overseeing facilities, maintenance, grounds, painting, and engineering functions. This role ensures a clean, operable, energy-efficient, and safe environment for employees, tenants, event partners, and the public. It is also accountable for the reliability of critical systems, including HVAC/refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, fire/life safety, and elevators/escalators, as well as for maintaining readiness during all events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in facilities management, construction management, or a related technical field preferred, minimum of?five years?in facilities or engineering operations for public assembly or multi-venue facilities, including?three years?in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in large-scale HVAC/refrigeration and auxiliary systems; ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to estimate labor and materials; manage minor public works projects and obtain necessary permits.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work independently under changing priorities and demands.
  • Excellent ability to maintain effective relationships at all organizational levels, with external business contacts, and with the public.
  • Familiarity with building trades, contracting procedures, and management of minor public work contracts; basic skills in designing alterations to structures and utilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally in both written and verbal forms.
  • Skilled in maintaining records and preparing reports.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing procedures, systems, and event demands.
  • Capable of working independently, staying focused on current objectives, and managing time effectively.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Consistently requires the ability to receive detailed information through both oral and written communication. The position involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions for certain events

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multi-disciplinary team; set goals, assign work, and enhance technical and professional capabilities.
  • Reinforce the vision and service standards of the Public Facilities District and department; promote exceptional guest service for staff, vendors, event personnel, and attendees.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, including inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of building systems, HVAC, refrigeration (including arena ice plant), plumbing, electrical, emergency power, and specialized equipment.
  • Ensure regular and emergency maintenance of grounds, facilities, equipment, elevators/escalators, and assets to meet public use standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, work orders, and PM schedules; assist with Safety Data Sheets and ensure timely completion and documentation.
  • Ensure life-safety compliance through routine inspection and documentation of fire alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, exit signage, and door hardware; partner with local agencies for facility safety.
  • Enforce safety rules and precautions, including confined space and hazardous materials protocols related to refrigeration/ice plant and generators.
  • Lead incident response and after-action reviews; respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Analyze energy usage and recommend operational changes or capital investments to reduce consumption while maintaining guest experience and system reliability.
  • Initiate and manage minor public works and special projects; develop scopes, obtain permits, solicit bids, award contracts, and oversee compliance with specifications.
  • Coordinate inspections and emergency repairs with external vendors; ensure quality compliance and timely delivery.
  • Manage the department budget, including labor, materials, service contracts, and utilities; forecast, monitor variances, and report status and risks to leadership.
  • Provide regular updates and performance reports on maintenance, repairs, safety, utilities, and projects to the leadership team.
  • Estimate material and work hours necessary for projects; coordinate ordering of unique materials and supplies.
  • Adhere to safety rules, regulations, and precautions.
  • Prepare facilities for changing weather conditions.
  • Be available for extended hours when necessary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Promote excellent guest services for employees, contract service providers, event personnel, and attendees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
