About The Position

Tesla is seeking a hands-on Equipment Engineer to improve and maintain manufacturing equipment for our battery cell pilot production. You will be a part of the Production Engineering team operating, sustaining, and improving cutting-edge dry electrode manufacturing in a flexible, fast paced environment. You will focus on equipment readiness and improving Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) of Roll-to-Roll and auxiliary equipment through daily troubleshooting as well as long-term improvement projects. Ensure safety while optimizing OEE through a mixture of reactive and proactive work, including frequent troubleshooting and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) of hydraulics/pneumatics, web handling/converting, continuous ink jet printing, calendaring, sensors/sequences, and more Own and account for manufacturing equipment for the Electrode manufacturing processes, working cross-functionally with Process Engineering, Production, Maintenance, EHS, and more to ensure daily objectives are met Lead equipment support to realize new/innovative/improved manufacturing processes to full scale production Work on PFMEA and equipment readiness with the manufacturing engineering team to build robustness into equipment Create and refine Predictive/Preventative Maintenance and Critical Spare Part Lists for equipment

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on industry experience in equipment engineering and/or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with LOTO, industrial safety, and hazard analysis--along with a willingness to drive safe operations
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting common manufacturing equipment components (hydraulics, pneumatics, sensors, etc.) and a passion for problem solving
  • Experience with one or more of following fields: battery cell manufacturing, roll to roll manufacturing equipment, automated mechanical assembly, calendaring/pressing, converting, paper processing, steel rolling/milling, or biaxial orientation
  • Experience with new equipment installations and new product startups
  • Experience writing production documentation: Maintenance Manuals, SOPs, checklists, flow diagrams, etc.
  • Data skills for RCCA and benchmarking current OEE
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills as well as the ability to work and manage time independently

Responsibilities

  • Own and account for manufacturing equipment for the Electrode manufacturing processes, working cross-functionally with Process Engineering, Production, Maintenance, EHS, and more to ensure daily objectives are met
  • Lead equipment support to realize new/innovative/improved manufacturing processes to full scale production
  • Work on PFMEA and equipment readiness with the manufacturing engineering team to build robustness into equipment
  • Create and refine Predictive/Preventative Maintenance and Critical Spare Part Lists for equipment
