Location: Location: This position is onsite at a Consumers Energy Service Center on Michigan's southwest side. Potential assignments include Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon, Norton Shores, Kalamazoo, and surrounding areas. The selected candidate must live within a commutable distance or be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates. GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The Senior Environmental Analyst conducts environmental research and analysis by gathering, interpreting, and developing data and policies to assess current processes and ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations. This role serves as a field resource for environmental issues and questions arising in day-to-day operations across Distribution, Operations, Engineering, Transmission, Gas Compression and Storage, and Shared Services. The analyst presents findings and recommendations to management, supports implementation of approved process changes, and performs preventative controls to reduce and manage compliance risk. Analyses include feasibility studies, cost-benefit analyses, trend/forecasting, compliance risk assessments, budget analysis, and regulatory reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Resource Development, Science, or another related field with four (4) or more years of experience in environmental analysis (OR) Associate's degree with six (6) or more years of experience in environmental analysis (OR) High School Diploma/GED with eight (8) or more years of experience in environmental analysis

Responsibilities

  • Mentor less experienced team members to ensure complete and accurate data collection and analysis
  • Manage regulated and universal waste at facilities and jobsites, including testing, scheduling, disposal, vendor management, and waste segregation
  • Respond 24/7 to polluting material releases and provide field assistance as needed
  • Develop and maintain Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plans through inspections, inventories, training, and administrative updates
  • Perform environmental site inspections and respond to soil and groundwater issues
  • Maintain storm water compliance through inspections and monitoring at various locations and projects
  • Manage compliance within Right to Know and SARA Title III reporting programs through inventories and agency reporting
  • Address Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) issues to protect worker health and safety
  • Collaborate with Environmental Quality and Sustainability Subject Matter Experts to identify field issues and clarify regulatory requirements
  • Lead discussions and presentations in zone manager and project management meetings
  • Serve as onsite support and regulatory liaison for gas compression and storage facilities
  • Provide logistical support at remediation sites and escort compliance auditors during site audits
  • Ensure compliance with Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) requirements for PCBs and conduct grid sampling when required
  • Respond to agency visits and inquiries from regulatory bodies
  • Analyze operational data and provide budget recommendations to management
  • Support storm response and restoration efforts, including spill response, cleanups, and contractor management
  • Communicate with utility customers regarding environmental matters
  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary
