About The Position

The Sr Engineer II, Electrical BOP, supports RWE Clean Energy's renewable generation assets by focusing specifically on balance of plant (BOP) equipment and systems. The Electrical BOP team provides engineering expertise for a wide range of BOP components, such as transformers, cables, dynamic and static reactive power devices, substations, relays, breakers, and power plant controllers. By collaborating closely with teams in Operations, Asset Management, Compliance, and Development/Construction, the Electrical BOP team helps ensure that current and future generating assets consistently operate at their best. We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer with deep expertise in short circuit analysis and arc flash studies. The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license, have a proven track record of conducting and approving these studies, and demonstrate thorough knowledge of all relevant codes and standards governing arc flash safety.

Requirements

  • A Master's or Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering, or Physics
  • A minimum of 6 years in power systems engineering with a focus on short circuit and arc flash studies
  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience with operating and analyzing high-voltage power systems equipment
  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience applicable to electric power generation, generation management, and automatic generation control
  • Detailed knowledge of power generation and distribution equipment, transformers, switchgear, transmission feeders, substations, and renewable energy
  • Knowledge of Codes and Standards: NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584, NEC, NESC, OSHA regulations
  • Strong understanding of protective device coordination and relay settings
  • Familiarity with the North American Electrical Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership and communication, and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate multiple tasks and deliverables
  • Ability to multitask, while working independently and as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • A Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred
  • Familiarity with industry modeling software such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, TSAT, and ETAP (a plus)

Responsibilities

  • Perform and review short circuit studies and arc flash hazard analyses for electrical systems
  • Approve study reports
  • Recommend mitigation strategies to reduce incident energy levels
  • Prepare technical documentation, including one-line diagrams, protective device coordination, and arc flash labeling
  • Develop and maintain accurate electrical system models using ETAP
  • Collaborate with project teams and clients to gather system data and validate inputs
  • Provide training and mentorship on electrical safety and power system analysis
  • Provide technical support for NERC standards (i.e., PRC-019, PRC-024, etc) and, where possible, conduct studies to meet NERC compliance
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to streamline processes, procedures, and methodologies associated with power system studies
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes and standards, including: NFPA 70E – Electrical Safety in the Workplace IEEE 1584 – Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations OSHA 29 CFR 1910 – Electrical Safety Regulations NEC (NFPA 70) – National Electrical Code NESC – National Electrical Safety Code
