Verizon Global Infrastructure is seeking a hands on Senior Engineer (Data Center Implementation Lead) to turn architectural designs into physical and logical reality. You will be the primary technical lead for the physical implementation and configuration of switches, routers, firewalls, and optics within our newly established data center network zones . Working in a Fortune 50 environment, you will bridge the gap between high-level architectural designs and the physical lab environment. You will partner with the Hempstead Lab team to perform hardware validation and stress testing, ensuring that the infrastructure—including Wi-Fi, Retail systems, Firewalls, Proxies, and Load Balancers—is ready for production-scale traffic. What you’ll be doing... Network Implementation & Design: Lead the physical and logical deployment of routers, switches, and next-generation firewalls, ensuring all configurations strictly adhere to Low Level Design (LLD) architectural standards. Automation & Modernization: Partner with automation leads to deploy configurations via code and validate their success on physical infrastructure, driving efficiency in network operations. Hardware Validation & Strategy: Spearhead proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives for high-speed connectivity and edge security, including the evaluation of optics and hardware performance using stress-testing tools like Spirent. Data Center Operations: Provide technical oversight for data center expansions, including site readiness, rack-and-stack operations, and the management of physical network topologies. Leadership & Planning: direct technical teams through mentorship and detailed implementation planning to ensure minimal disruption to the existing enterprise network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.
  • Four or more years of experience in enterprise network implementation, testing, and data center operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in large-scale Fortune 50 enterprise environments with complex physical networking requirements.
  • Prior experience leading digital transformation initiatives with a focus on cloud security and networking.
  • Proficiency in interpreting Low Level Design (LLD) and translating it into physical infrastructure .
  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and how they interface with physical data center infrastructure.
  • Strong expertise in switching, routing, and high-speed optics (e.g., 100G/400G).
  • Hands-on experience with next-gen firewalls, proxies, VPNs, and load balancers.
  • New technology development and testing experience.
  • Strong understanding of industry security standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, and CIS benchmarks.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
