About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Part-time Electronics Engineer to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Headquarters in Washington D.C. This is a virtual position with 100% telework, and the candidate may live anywhere within the United States. Business travel is estimated to be 25% - 35% of the time. The role involves the research, development, and implementation of satellite-based navigation, ground-based NavAids, or visual/lighting systems to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations in the National Airspace System. The engineer will conduct complex independent and inter-dependent engineering studies, brief management, prepare various plans (transition, testing, training), and coordinate their implementation with stakeholders. Responsibilities also include providing engineering system design packages for various equipment installations, offering guidance in navigation system design and delivery, analyzing customer needs for electrical system planning, inspecting electronic systems for compliance, preparing risk assessments, and recommending design modifications and equipment repair. The candidate will also be involved in the physical repair and reassembly of telecom type equipment from shelters and other structures.

Requirements

  • Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering degree from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  • At least 12 – 15 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 10 – 13 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as an Electronics Engineer.
  • Experience doing complex engineering economic studies.
  • Experience inspecting electronic systems.
  • Ability to travel up to 25-35% of the time.
  • Some design experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability.

Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, and implement satellite-based navigation, ground-based NavAids, or visual/lighting systems for the National Airspace System.
  • Conduct complex independent and inter-dependent engineering studies (e.g., feasibility, life-cycle costing, efficiency, risk analysis, cost benefit, and other engineering economic studies).
  • Brief upper management/stakeholders on a regular basis regarding engineering studies.
  • Prepare transition plans, testing plans, and training plans.
  • Coordinate the implementation of transition plan elements with all affected stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering system design packages for installation, including communications equipment, radar automation equipment, control and monitoring equipment, and weather communication equipment.
  • Provide guidance and instructions in the design, development, and delivery of navigation systems.
  • Analyze customer needs to determine the costs, capacity, and requirements for creating an electrical system plan.
  • Inspect electronic systems, instruments, and equipment to ensure they meet applicable regulations and safety standards.
  • Prepare engineering risk assessments and provide recommendations and proposals of actions or improvements to mitigate potential risks resulting from site, facility, and project/program changes.
  • Recommend design modifications and equipment repair.
  • Take equipment out of shelters and other structures and assist in its repairs and put back together, mainly telecom type equipment.
