About The Position

We have an opening for an Electronics Technologist . You will develop, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, operate, maintain experimental, research, and prototype equipment associated with electronic systems within the Superblock Complex. Superblock is a nuclear facility and may occasionally require working overtime shifts and/or weekends to accomplish goals; some work will occur in Radiological environments. This position is in Operations within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Directorate. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work. In this role, you will Fabricate, assemble, and disassemble moderately complex electronic components and systems. Acquire, analyze, document data, and provide solutions or alternate approaches to moderately complex problems using individual creativity and judgment. Prepare equipment/documents and work utilizing instructional procedures/guides for repairing, calibrating, operating, or maintaining equipment/systems. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment/systems. Provide general technical support to maintenance and engineering staff by utilizing a variety of test equipment and troubleshooting methods. Acquire, analyze and document data and test results using known performance parameters to identify problems and report results. Contribute to moderately complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision process. Perform other duties as assigned. In Addition, at the 531.3 Level Independently deploy, fabricate, troubleshoot, assemble, and disassemble complex electronic components and systems, including planning and selecting materials, equipment, and methodology. Assist in developing test parameters, troubleshooting, providing input on solutions, and testing different materials, components, or systems. Independently identify, analyze, document, and provide solutions or alternate approaches to complex electronic problems using individual creativity and judgment; prioritize, provide work, and technical guidance to others while checking for accuracy, completeness, and functionality.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience with electrical diagnostic equipment, maintaining area controls, assisting with electronic diagnostic calibration, testing prior to experiment execution, and performing data analysis after experiment execution.
  • Ability to read and follow engineering notes, sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of engineering hardware design and testing processes.
  • Experience in general fabrication processes with the ability to operate hand/power tools such as soldering irons.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and with other groups such as fabrication facility, Alarms Group, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and other protective equipment and perform moderate work while wearing full-face or half-mask respirators, and ability to maintain required qualifications and certifications (i.e. Rad Worker (II), Beryllium Worker, and Human Reliability Program (HRP)).
  • Significant related experience in electronic circuits, systems, theory, and design.
  • Advanced level technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures and the ability to interpret and execute complex assembly procedures from engineering notes, sketches, drawings, and other technical material.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Active DOE Q-level or Top-Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and related maintenance experience in an industrial or research facility.
  • Experience working in a high hazard or radiological facility.
