Senior Electrical Subject Matter Expert (Sr. Electrical SME) Position Summary The Senior Electrical Subject Matter Expert (Sr. Electrical SME) serves as the organization’s technical authority for complex electrical systems, standards, and best practices. This role provides strategic guidance, technical leadership, and hands-on expertise across design, engineering, operations, troubleshooting, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Sr. Electrical SME partners cross-functionally to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient electrical infrastructure aligned with industry standards and business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in power distribution systems (low, medium, and high voltage).
  • Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in large industrial, manufacturing, data center, utility, or energy environments.
  • Commissioning and startup experience.
  • Knowledge of renewable integration, backup generation systems, and UPS systems.
  • Familiarity with SCADA, PLCs, and control systems integration.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, power distribution, protection systems, and control architectures.
  • Develop and maintain electrical design standards, specifications, and best practices.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex electrical failures.
  • Provide expert review and approval of electrical designs, calculations, and engineering deliverables.
  • Support capital projects from concept through commissioning, including design validation and field oversight.
  • Conduct load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and reliability studies.
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend implementation strategies.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and operations teams to optimize system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, OSHA).
  • Lead electrical safety programs, risk assessments, and arc flash mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical input for regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for electrical assets.
  • Mentor engineers and technicians; provide training on electrical systems and safety practices.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and cost reduction.
