About The Position

The Sr. EHS Specialist will be responsible for all environmental and safety-related processes and policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment, and the protection of the environment; proactively identifying environmental, occupational health and safety gaps and developing action plans to address; and engaging all employees in promoting a safety culture. This position will be on-site in West Lafayette, Indiana, but will oversee EHS function for other manufacturing sites in USA (Glencoe and Eden Prairie, Minnesota).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in safety engineering, industrial safety, occupational safety and health, environmental science or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in EHS, preferably in manufacturing facilities or laboratories
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid knowledge of environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • In depth knowledge of EPA, OSHA, RCRA and DOT regulations
  • Move or lift objects up to 40 lbs, occasionally
  • Must be able to work in environments where hazardous chemicals are used and stored
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, gloves and protective clothing is required as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in environmental compliance and management systems, preferred
  • Previous experience in EHS cultural transformation, reinforcement and practices implementation
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive awareness and accountability for environmental, health and safety performance through all levels of the company.
  • Responsible for leading the company’s EHS Hazard Identification and Risk Management Program.
  • Conduct workplace risk/exposure assessments for different on-site classes of hazards.
  • Serve as primary contact for regulatory agencies such as EPA, State Environmental agencies, and OSHA for inspections, permitting, and reporting.
  • Develop, implement, and conduct internal audit and training programs to ensure understanding, acceptance, and compliance with EHS policies and procedures.
  • Implement Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety programs and policies as set out by the company and maintain and update training records and certificates.
  • Responsible for reporting EHS performance metrics, incidents and activities to Global EHS Manager.
  • Review accidents and incidents and conduct investigations, with follow-up reporting and monitoring of the corrective actions.
  • Educate employees about environmental, occupational health and safety regulations, risk prevention and control measures. This involves creating EHS awareness training programs and modules.
  • Lead cross functional Sites' Safety Committee.
  • Evaluate Safety Data Sheets and ensure proper labeling, storage, and use of chemicals per OSHA and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance to regulations and company standards.Oversee the proper maintenance of safety equipment and ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct regular inspections of hazardous chemical storage areas, coordinate waste disposal and manage compliance with RCRA regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and manage business continuity plans, emergency response procedures and disaster preparedness programs, including emergency drills.
