About The Position

The Senior Director of Development serves as the development team’s second-in-command, providing strategic leadership and strengthening operational systems. This role oversees donor relations, prospect research, portfolio management, stewardship, communications, digital fundraising, and two major annual fundraising events. The Senior Director also manages budgets, leads donor receptions, and supports the Family Advisory Board and Advancement Committee. Working closely with the Chief and senior leadership, this position plays a key role in driving Bancroft’s fundraising growth and mission impact. Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture and support the team in meeting development goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with 5 -7 years of fundraising or related sales experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in closing six-figure gifts and managing high-level donors and board members.
  • Experience managing development operations and previous campaign experience required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence and high standards, including meticulous attention to detail, excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong ability to interact with a diverse and broad range of individuals.
  • Strong initiative; ability to assume project management responsibility.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required; proficiency in computer skills and database management (Salesforce preferred).
  • Ability to think conceptually & strategically; excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure and deadlines as a team player.
  • Valid driver’s license required in incumbent’s legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions.
  • Minimum 18 years of age required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct 2–5 donor meetings per month for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, securing 1–2 gifts monthly, typically ranging from $5,000–$100,000.
  • Cultivate new and existing donors, including families; oversee monthly wealth screening and produce major gift proposals.
  • Lead Bancroft’s signature fundraising events (Gala and golf tournament), including sponsorships, ticket sales, marketing coordination, and full event execution.
  • Oversee donor stewardship, including donor walls, appreciation events, stewardship societies, and all donor communications.
  • Lead digital fundraising campaigns and grow the pipeline from annual giving to major gifts; drive donor acquisition, renewal, and retention efforts.
  • Coordinate Advancement Committee meetings and support volunteer engagement with clear goals aligned to fundraising priorities.
  • Grow corporate and foundation giving through targeted strategies and proposals.
  • Manage development metrics and reporting, including dashboards, monthly revenue reports, and restricted funds tracking.
  • Build strong relationships across the community—families, volunteers, donors, and partners—to identify and advance major gift opportunities.
  • Partner with the Chief to support volunteer leadership, meeting preparation, communications, and coordination.
  • Oversee gift processing, acknowledgements, and donor recognition.
  • Align long-range fundraising strategies and annual plans with organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Chief on policies and procedures for wealth screening, moves management, portfolio assignments, and database best practices.
