About The Position

The Sr. Director, Development leads the organization’s efforts in executing the fundraising strategy for the Dr. Phillips Center. The Sr. Director is responsible managing the gift officer team and identifying prospects and securing donations from local, regional and nationally based individuals, families and foundations. The ideal candidate will have a record of success in dynamic leadership along with fundraising in the performing arts industry. This role will be responsible for an annual fundraising goal of $2.5 million.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required in arts administration, business, or a related field is preferred.
10+ years-experience with a non-profit, managing high-level donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing major gifts. Extensive experience cultivating and soliciting high net-worth individuals for outright gifts and planned gifts and a proven track record in the management of successful development programs.
Must have 5+ years in leadership experience to include recruiting, selection, training, managing, and mentoring a team.
Excellent organizational, project and budget management skills and the ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to complete assignments with many deadlines and competing requirements.
Highly developed written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong computer proficiency skills including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) and CRM software.
This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs.
Must be able to provide own transportation to attend off-site meetings and events.

Responsibilities

Effectively inspire, lead and manage the fundraising strategy to achieve/exceed annual contributed income revenue goals for multiple campaigns, including: the Arts for Every Life annual campaign, endowment, planned giving, capital campaigns, and special initiatives.
Secure and steward major gifts at the $100,000+ level with the goal of raising $2.5+ million annually towards the capital, annual, planned giving & endowment campaigns. Manage and maintain a portfolio of 300+ major gift prospects and donors. Project manage appeals ensuring deadlines and fundraising goals are met.
Identifies new prospects and works closely in collaboration with Development Administration, Executive Office, Board of Directors, Strategic Partnerships and multiple teams across the organization.
Make direct, face-to-face solicitations, and assist executive leadership, the board and other staff at events, on/off-site meetings and tours.
Create and implement moves management plans for major donor and prospect in their portfolio. Prepare individually tailored presentations and/or proposals for solicitations and create packages specific to projects and the interests of prospects.
Creates and executes annual Development Work Plan with the Vice president aligned with the company’s goals and objectives.
Report and Database Management: Prepare written proposals, gift agreements, funder pitches, and other materials needed to define, secure and document major gifts. Effectively utilize CRM to maintain timely records of contacts with donors and prospects; analyze potential donor research materials to target appropriate givers; and track, evaluate and present relevant giving information.
Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition, ensuring appropriate acknowledgement of pledges, major gifts and planned gifts.
Creates and maintains financial performance reports for executive and board leadership. Provides insights on successes and recommendations to overcome challenges.
Utilizes, Tessitura (CRM) and other software to track, report and analyze fundraising progress.
Accountable for administrative responsibilities to include: recruiting, scheduling, payroll, budgets and purchasing. Interviews, selects. trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines and evaluates performance of team for the efficient operation of the department. Schedules and directs colleagues on their work assignments.
Leads departmental contributed revenue budgeting and financial planning processes and ensures accurate execution and management of such.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures that relate to the department as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations.
Follow and support all operational policies and procedures. Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values.
Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners. Maintains positive presence within community. Maintains positive relationships with key clients, sponsors and local community business leaders.
Able to remain calm under pressure. Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy. Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times.
Work show nights and special events to entertain, network, service clients/prospects and comfortable with public speaking and providing curtain speeches.
