About The Position

The Senior Director, Chief of Staff is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and strategic alignment of Alnylam’s US operations. This role will report to the Senior Vice President, Head of US and TTR Lead (“SVP, Head of US”), and will support tactical and strategic decision-making processes, foster cross-functional collaboration, and drive organizational efficiency and effectiveness. This role will serve as a platform for the Chief of Staff to learn the US business in granular detail, build deep relationships with key stakeholders across the US and global enterprise, and position themselves strongly for future leadership and development roles in both the US and global.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of the biopharma commercial landscape in the U.S.
  • 7-10+ years of industry experience, preferably in the US commercial sphere
  • Proven experience in a leadership or a senior management role.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of successful project management and execution.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the overall US operations, including those related to the SVP, Head of US and those related to the US Leadership Team (“USLT”), are optimized for strategic focus, operational efficiency, and timely execution of key initiatives (e.g. via regularly reviewed KPIs)
  • Manage scheduling, task assignments, meeting content, and agendas to ensure seamless operations within the executive office.
  • Spend significant time addressing internal matters to allow the SVP, Head of US, to focus on external priorities.
  • Oversee the execution of short, medium, and long-term strategic plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ensure appropriate USLT focus is on strategic planning, and coordinate complex, cross-functional decision-making processes.
  • Communicate strategic decisions and track their implementation and outcomes.
  • Ensure the USLT stays aligned with the organization’s vision, acting as a critical “devil’s advocate.”
  • Establish and maintain boundaries around critical information requirements, supporting long-term objectives.
  • Drive key strategic initiatives and business transformation projects on behalf of USLT
  • Connect data and decision points across different business units, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Monitor and assess the use of information to support strategic intent, ensuring decisions are data-driven.
  • Identify and present key decisions that need to be made, clarifying decision spaces and opportunities.
  • Orchestrate ongoing reviews of core financial performance and analysis related to understanding and closing performance gaps
  • Build trust and relationships with other executives, understand their challenges and perspectives, and ensure the SVP, Head of US, is well-informed.
  • Build a personal network of key operational leaders throughout the US TTR franchise, separate from the USLT, to ensure alternative information flows and connection points up to the USLT
  • Develop an understanding of the SVP, Head of US’s communication preferences and identify gaps in information flow within the organization.
  • Represent the SVP, Head of US’s views accurately to various audiences, maintaining consistency and clarity in communication
  • Ensure the broader organization, both US and corporate/global have a strong “shared consciousness” of the current US operations, challenges, opportunities, and ongoing initiatives
  • Work with Communications to prepare and disseminate correspondence and messaging on behalf of the SVP, Head of US, anticipating responses and needs.
