Role Summary The Sr. Dimensional Engineer is responsible for ensuring that vehicle components and assemblies meet dimensional quality targets throughout the product lifecycle. In this position you will lead dimensional control strategies to achieve fit, finish, and functional requirements across BIW, closures, and other major assemblies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or other related technical field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with fixture designs, checking aids and datum strategies.
  • Excellent knowledge of GD&T.
  • Manufacturing/assembly experience with a focus on one or more of the following areas: Automotive Stamping, Body in White assemblies/subassemblies, Drivetrain castings/gears, Battery modules
  • Results driven with a Quality Mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Improve Dimensional performance of vehicle throughout the product life cycle.
  • Dimensional engineering PQ build objectives (Fit & Finish) of the final vehicle.
  • Internal and external dimensional KPI's. G&F PIST, BIW PIST, BIW Cp/Cpk, 3MIS, Pre-delivery inspection (PDI), Customer quality index (CQI), Craftmanship audit.
  • Develop/Manage the list of critical product and process characteristics and controlling their geometry in vehicle builds to produce quality assemblies.
  • Develop/Maintain the Dimensional Control plan for critical assemblies.
  • Support parts and system validation processes for all body geometry and proactively lead variation reduction efforts for the body shop (goal of achieving Cp/Cpk > 1.33 for all critical features and sustaining those levels through product life cycle)
  • Review Supplier parts to ensure zero-dimensional build issues.
  • Own and maintain the current Geo fixtures, Cubes, Ring gauges & PCF.
  • Support Interior and exterior dimensional validation, using Cubes, Ring gauges & PCF's.
  • Recommending best gauging methods and performing data analysis to identify special and common cause problems.
