This position is responsible for working independently or assisting engineers in the design, drafting, and development of products and related components for ENT medical devices using Computer-Aided Design (CAD), including 3D modeling. The role supports the creation of engineering and manufacturing documentation and requires close collaboration with R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, and suppliers. The individual will typically work independently while receiving overall direction from technical management.

Requirements

  • AA degree or technical trade school certification with 8+ years of practical experience in design and drafting supporting product development from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong drafting and mechanical drawing skills.
  • Deep knowledge of drafting standards and engineering technology.
  • Solid understanding of engineering and manufacturing documentation.
  • Extensive experience with 2D and 3D CAD techniques.
  • Proficiency using precision measurement equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges, optical comparator).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; demonstrates sound judgment when communicating across organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with designers, drafters, engineers, technicians, and suppliers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities effectively.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to influence without alienating others.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify appropriate reference materials and technical sources.
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Working knowledge of material properties, coatings, finishes, and secondary processes.
  • Strong proficiency in Creo Parametric and Windchill PDMLink.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with or strong interest in developing advanced 3D modeling analysis expertise and training other users.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with the Medtronic Xomed Quality System.
  • Designs and drafts accurate scale layouts of parts, assemblies, and devices.
  • Develops prototypes, specifications, and drawings for new products, components, and medical device concepts.
  • Develops verification and validation units for testing activities.
  • Communicates cross-functionally to create or revise engineering and manufacturing documentation.
  • Executes responsibilities with a high degree of independence and minimal supervision.
  • Researches and develops concepts, ideas, and solutions for complex medical device needs.
  • Delivers complete device components and assemblies for engineering review based on verbal and written direction.
  • Mentors drafters and less experienced designers.
  • Ensures all activities comply with the Quality System.
  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health, and safety policies and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
