Sr. Design Engineer
About The Position
MakoRabco is seeking a Structural Engineer and/or Engineer in Training to meet our growing demand of storage-related projects involving cold-formed steel, structural steel, concrete, and masonry. Projects include single-story and multi-story self-storage facilities, boat and RV storage, carports, urban conversions, and Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) projects. Most projects are design-build. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with Designers, Estimators, Detailers, Project Managers, Developers, Sales Team and other engineers throughout all phases of the project. Seeking right individual that has Engineering license(s) in this area of work or working towards obtaining Engineering license. If currently working towards Engineering license candidate will have experience in cold form metal framing and will assist with redlining plans and creating structural calculation packages for projects.
Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering design experience (all experience levels are welcome to apply).
- Prior knowledge or experience with cold-formed steel framing.
- Strong familiarity with cold-formed steel, structural steel, concrete, and masonry.
- Familiarity with IBC, ASCE, and AISI codes; ability to determine load paths and calculate vertical and lateral loads.
- Proficiency in design software such as CFS, Enercalc, MathCAD, Revit, AutoCAD, and others.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and other trade drawings and specifications.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong problem-solving skills, independent judgment, and ability to prioritize tasks and resolve conflicts.

- Experience with PEMB projects is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Prepare structural drawings and calculation packages for typical MakoRabco projects under the supervision of Sr. licensed Engineer, with the expectation of progressing toward independent work.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external team members, including field personnel; attend project meetings with design teams.
- Review and redline structural drawings prepared by the BIM and drafting team.
- Assist estimators during the bidding process and support BIM designers during modeling and drafting.
- Provide field support during construction, including interpreting structural drawings and specifications, creating engineered sketches, and offering solutions as needed. Occasional site visits may be required.
- Continuously develop knowledge of cold-formed steel and other engineering topics.
- Maintain and improve engineering tools, templates, and programs.
