About The Position

The purpose of Data Governance and the Data Governance Office is to provide a framework of policies, standards, roles, and processes that ensure Exelon's data is high-quality, secure, accessible, and compliant while enabling better decision-making, operational efficiencies, and risk management while aligning data use with strategic business goals. The Data Steward Lead is responsible for partnering with Data Domain Stewards and Analysts in implementing enterprise Data Governance Standards and Policies on both structured and unstructured data. This role will assist in the development of core processes and artifacts required to apply data standards and policies to Exelon's data. In addition, the position will assist on the onboarding of required Data Governance roles such as Data Stewards and Data Analysts. The Lead will collaborate with project teams and internal stakeholders to enforce enterprise data policies and standards, implement data lifecycle management for both structured and unstructured data, provide oversight for data product development, and advance AI readiness for business use cases. They will be responsible for implementing plans to support our data, building key metrics and dashboards, and aligning data for AI use case efforts. They will provide technical expertise aligning with IT solutions and architectural standards within the overall data governance process. They will ensure that all data management processes are adhered to for IT, Innovation, and Business-initiated projects. This role demands a comprehensive understanding of data governance & data management. The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a keen interest in staying abreast of industry trends. The Data Steward Lead will train and coordinate with domain-level stewards, provide hands-on stewardship for critical enterprise data domains, drive adoption of enterprise standards and Collibra practices (business glossaries, data catalogs, workflow development, and naming standards). They will support early data quality triage and ensure compliance with defined Data Governance policies. The role also involves participating in the development and roadmaps of enterprise data products. The Data Steward Lead must be adaptable for special projects or initiatives when required and work closely with internal and external teams as necessary. Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. This is a multiple‑location posting. The selected candidate may be based out of our Exelon Corporate Office locations in Philadelphia, PA, Kennett Square, PA, Baltimore, MD, Chicago, IL, Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience); advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in database platforms, data management, Big Data, and data analytics/virtualization architecture, design, and implementation, with a strong track record of leadership in technical roles.
  • Knowledgeable of data governance and data management principles.
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, or Informatica.
  • Proven excellence in problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex and large-scale technical issues.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and mentor teams effectively.
  • Understanding of change management principles associated with new data technology implementations.
  • Thorough understanding and practical experience with project management principles and methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience in data stewardship and/or data governance concepts.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills specifically in Data management, and data analytics technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cyber Security, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Planning related to data environments.
  • Knowledge of industry compliance standards and regulations relevant to data management, such as NERC/CIP.
  • Solid understanding of project management principles, including Agile and Waterfall methodologies, as they relate to large-scale data technology deployments.
  • Experience with capacity planning, performance tuning, and operational support for enterprise data systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Data Stewardship Oversight: Provide leadership to domain-level stewards to ensure consistent data stewardship practices (30%)
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Working with domain-level owners, stewards, and analysts to align data procedures with business goals by leading stewardship committees or assisting on kicking off initiatives. Work with cross-functional teams to enable standards and policies and assist in driving convergence where needed. (20%)
  • Data Issue Resolution: Guide domain-level stewards on identifying, escalating, and managing the resolution of data anomalies, data change requests, and data quality issues. (15%)
  • Metadata Management: Guide and assist in maintaining comprehensive documentation and definitions to ensure data is understood and correctly used across the organization. (15%)
  • Policy and Standards Enforcement: Translate data governance policies into practical, daily procedures for data usage, security, and compliance. (10%)
  • Data Evaluation and Selection: Participate in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of data technologies. Conduct thorough analysis and testing to identify the best solutions for organizational needs and future growth (5%)
  • Vendor Management: Build and maintain vendor relationships, and ensure vendors meet performance expectations. Ensure that vendor products and services deliver value to the organization. Continue to be apprised of technology advances and how they can be applied. (5%)
