The Purpose: We’re seeking a seasoned Data Engineer to join our high-impact team at Slickdeals. This role will inherit and evolve a mature data ecosystem built over 3+ years, spanning Databricks, dbt, Airflow, AWS, Tableau, and AtScale. You’ll be responsible for maintaining and modernizing core pipelines, enabling analytics and reporting, and supporting cost-conscious, scalable data infrastructure.

Requirements

  • BS/BA/BE degree in a quantitative area such as mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering or analytics engineering
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and dbt
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks, Airflow, and AWS
  • Familiarity with semantic modeling tools
  • Experience building dashboards and supporting BI teams using Tableau
  • Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Always curious and a continuous learner
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship or transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cost monitoring tools or FinOps practices
  • Familiarity with vendor integrations and API-based data sharing
  • Exposure to AtScale, Tableau, or other modern data platforms
  • Passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using dbt, Airflow, and Databricks
  • Develop and optimize data models in AtScale to support BI tools like Tableau
  • Collaborate with Analytics, Product, and Engineering teams to deliver reliable, timely data
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data workflows, ensuring high availability and performance
  • Support cloud infrastructure in AWS, including S3, Kafka, EC2, Lambda, and IAM policies
  • Contribute to cost optimization efforts across data storage, compute, and tooling
  • Document systems, processes, and tribal knowledge for continuity and onboarding
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and team rituals
