Title: Sr. Counsel, Practice Management Preferred hub location: Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX or Columbus, OH, or Florida (Tampa, St Petersburg) Remote/Hybrid/Onsite: REMOTE Industry background: Healthcare provider experience (REQUIRED) Position Summary Join McKesson’s General Counsel Organization (GCO) as a senior attorney focusing on McKesson’s oncology and specialty physician practice management businesses, including The US Oncology Network (The Network), one of the nation’s largest and most influential physician practice management organizations, focused on the recently acquired Core Ventures business of The Network. The Network comprises over 45 physician practices with more than 1,400 physicians, caring for an estimated 15% of cancer patients in the United States each year. Core Ventures is the exclusive management services organization (MSO) for Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, an oncology practice with over 270 physicians and 90 locations across Florida. You will report to the Managing Chief Counsel, Practice Management, and collaborate with executive leadership, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to advance McKesson’s mission of improving cancer care and driving innovation in oncology practice management. The successful candidate will become a critical member of a collegial and highly experienced team responsible for managing all legal aspects of these practice management businesses.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant legal health care focused experience in a corporate legal department or law firm providing legal counsel to health care provider clients
  • Significant experience in fraud and abuse and other healthcare laws, transactions, and contract negotiations
  • Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with many business leaders from multiple functions and with other members of the legal team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice and to earn the trust and confidence of the business
  • Excellent transaction and commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of payer, regulatory, compliance, privacy and licensure issues at the federal and state level relative to physician practices
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Strong business acumen dealing with high-stakes negotiations, risk analysis and organizational priorities
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects in an efficient and timely manner
  • Proactive problem-solving approach
  • Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials
  • Member of a state bar in good standing
  • Degree or equivalent and typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the US. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine day-to-day legal support for the practice management businesses, covering a broad range of legal issues in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Offer healthcare regulatory advice (AKS, Stark Law, FCA, CMS, and state rules and regulations) related to arrangements with physician practices.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to grow The Network and Core Ventures and improve the performance of the practices.
  • Work with information and technology teams to enhance data governance and the ability to capture, analyze, and use data to improve business outcomes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other attorneys, legal specialists, and compliance professionals in the McKesson GCO, including attorney subject matter experts in litigation, labor and employment, IP, data privacy, security and governance, and health care fraud and abuse laws.
  • Engage frequently with internal stakeholders across functional groups, both in the practice management business and in other centralized support functions supporting the business.
