About The Position

The Sr. Buyer purchases materials and supplies to maintain monthly production requirements. Coordinates shipments with vendors, monitors inventory levels, makes recommendations for improvements and processes. Formulates strategic plans and objectives for purchasing; performs in-depth and complete procurement plans and analysis of new purchase materials and supplies; trains and mentors other Buyers as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years related experience.
  • SAP knowledge and experience.
  • MRP (Materials Requirement Planning).
  • In-depth knowledge of purchasing procedures/practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to multi-task and set priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Some Travel maybe necessary (25%).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 3-5 years of international purchasing experience.
  • APICS, CPIM and/or purchasing certificate.
  • Experience with New product development and/or a Make-to-Order/ Engineered-to-Order (Custom) environment.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing of materials and supplies ($5M–$10M annual spend) through ERP, requisitions, or management requests.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, monitor KPIs, and drive improvements in delivery, quality, and past-due orders.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and purchase orders; oversee new supplier qualification in line with ISO standards.
  • Collaborate with Product Development and Engineering to select and approve vendors and new products.
  • Develop and execute commodity strategies, forecast market conditions, and implement sourcing plans to support production.
  • Lead cost-saving initiatives (3% annual target), including supplier consolidation, alternate sourcing, and LCC optimization.
  • Mentor junior buyers, reconcile inventory and invoices, manage excess/obsolete inventory, and conduct supplier evaluations and quarterly business reviews.
