This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. We are looking for a Senior Benefits Specialist to share your passion and expertise in benefits and wellness, delivering day-to-day support for Blue Origin employees and our group benefits (e.g., group health, dental, vision, life insurance, flexible spending plan, HSA, etc.) programs. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Benefits, you will significantly contribute to the execution of Blue Origin’s healthcare, wellness, and other benefit programs. Key responsibilities include:

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 5+ years of experience in benefits administration, preferably in a Workday environment
  • Demonstrated expertise with benefits systems and integration management, with Workday experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance affecting employee benefits programs (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, etc.)
  • Experience managing benefits operations for a medium to large organization
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong data analysis skills and ability to identify/implement process improvements
  • Exceptional communication skills for creating clear educational materials and conducting employee sessions
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with HR teams, vendors, and technical resources

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) and/or Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) designation
  • Experience with benefits operations in a high-growth or technology company
  • Knowledge of international benefits administration
  • Experience with SSO implementation for benefits vendors
  • Background in creating and improving employee-facing benefits portals and communications

Responsibilities

  • Benefits Operations & Systems Management Implement and operationalize Blue's ongoing employee benefit programs in alignment with strategic directives
  • Create functional requirements for Workday/Agile team to support implementations, changes, and process enhancements
  • Design streamlined, automated employee-facing processes to create user-centric experiences
  • Perform user acceptance testing and production sign-off for benefits system changes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve file integration issues, error reports, case escalations, and enrollment system configurations
  • Audit and resolve eligibility and enrollment process, integration, and supplier data errors for vendor partners
  • Resolve specific vendor eligibility issues
  • Eligibility & Enrollment Management Deliver and execute annual Open Enrollment processes including Workday programming support
  • Implement new vendor operations including Workday integration, employee experience, and billing processes
  • Review and approve employee enrollment events in Workday, ensuring proper documentation
  • Administer benefit termination and reinstatement for employees on unpaid leave of absence
  • Ensure benefits rules within Workday follow federal/statutory regulations and Blue policies
  • Manage COBRA-related processes
  • Manage FMLA exhaustion process
  • Employee Care & Education Create and maintain Benefits and Perks wiki and other employee-facing benefits communications
  • Develop and deliver benefits education sessions for new employees and special events
  • Provide advanced support (Tier 2/3) for escalated employee benefits issues and appeals
  • Advocate for employees navigating complex claims or experiencing challenges with vendor processes
  • Pull and send coverage substantiation documentation to vendors as needed for claims support
  • Financial & Compliance Administration Process monthly vendor administrative billing
  • Facilitate specialized program reimbursements (e.g., family-building benefits)
  • Track and bill employees who miss benefit contributions due to no pay in a given period
  • Support ACA reporting including auditing and generating Forms 1095/1094 and state filings
  • Assist with compliance requirements for benefits programs, including government filings and audits
  • Document and maintain SOPs and process documentation for all benefits operations.
