About The Position

SM Energy is seeking a seasoned and strategic Analytics Lead to serve as a key partner to the BI Supervisor. This senior role is critical to the success of the Business Intelligence team, responsible for leading multiple, high-impact initiatives and driving the BI strategy forward. The ideal candidate will operate with a high degree of autonomy, expertly navigating ambiguity to deliver innovative and impactful solutions that provide significant value to the organization. This individual will serve as a force-multiplier, a key leader, and a mentor within the team, collaborating with business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver results while demonstrating strong leadership and influencing capabilities.

Requirements

  • Leadership & Mentorship: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire a team of technical and analytical professionals. Capable of guiding project teams and elevating the overall capabilities of the BI function.
  • Project & Portfolio Management: Expertise in managing multiple, concurrent initiatives with competing priorities. Ability to deliver projects on time and within scope while managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Managing Ambiguity: Exceptional ability to operate with a high degree of independence, thriving in situations with unclear requirements and driving analytics solutions from concept to production with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Operate as critical partner for the BI Supervisor providing guidance to the analytics team and representing the department in key meetings.
  • Independently lead a portfolio of complex analytics and business intelligence projects, ensuring successful execution from conception to completion.
  • Mentor and develop junior analysts and project members, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, technical teams, and external partners, guiding them toward innovative solutions that meet organizational goals.
  • Foster the use of advanced analytical skills to gather, analyze, and interpret complex data from multiple sources to provide actionable insights that influence key decisions.

  • Build project plan and timeline as needed. Lead project meetings and status updates.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to gather detailed requirements and define functional specifications for the dashboard.
  • Act as the bridge between business needs and technical teams by ensuring that the business requirements are accurately transformed into technical specifications including SQL scripts to expedite development cycles.
  • Provide guidance to developers on how to implement business logic efficiently and within best practices, ensuring the technical output meets the business objectives and timelines.
  • Leverage your business knowledge to ensure developers have a clear understanding of the business context and goals for the dashboard.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, mentoring developers to elevate their performance and focus on quality.
  • Lead the internal testing process to ensure the solutions deliver accurate and actionable data.
  • Conduct thorough validation of outputs and data integrity, ensuring that the dashboard meets the business and technical requirements before handing off to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather continuous feedback, ensuring the dashboard evolves according to their needs.
  • Run weekly project meetings as needed.
  • After each iteration deployment, work with stakeholders to monitor the dashboard’s usage, gather feedback, and recommend improvements for future iterations.
