About The Position

Grainger's inventory planning team manages over 10 million SKU's and $1 billion in inventory across 500 DC's and branches in North America. The Senior Advanced Analytics Analyst is responsible for creating cost-savings or service improving inventory solutions that leverage statistics or operations research. These analytics-based solutions would be used to improve how Grainger decides where, when and how much inventory should be placed that aligns with strategic goals and keeping customers happy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Business Analytics or a related quantitative field required
  • 3+ years work experience in related field
  • Experience with analytics tools (e.g. R, Python, SQL) and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Experience articulating ambiguous business questions and using quantitative modeling techniques to arrive at a solution
  • Experience processing, filtering, validating, and presenting large quantities of data (Millions to Billions of rows)

  • Experience supply chain and inventory planning, forecasting and optimization knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

  • Use operations research, statistical methods, mathematical models and tools to understand, predict and improve inventory processes.
  • Contribute the building and deployment of durable processes and models.
  • Participate/lead discussions with representatives to adapt the planning system to accommodate business unit needs.
  • Articulate the cost and service impacts of strategic initiatives/projects to get buy-in.
  • Apply knowledge and business judgment to identify opportunities and quantify impact.
  • Present clear and concise results.
  • Own the end-to-end delivery process that encompasses research, design, testing, scaling, and implementation of projects.
  • Build predictive models such as the promotions impact on demand.
  • Leverage time series features to find targeted improvements to forecast distribution accuracy, run an A/B test with peer-control groups to compare inventory policy changes, measure and predict supply chain variation to ensure high service levels
