About The Position

Blue Cross NC is looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst who will apply expertise in mathematics, probability, statistics, and business principles to offer assistance and technical support for complex rating/pricing, valuation, healthcare economics, and financial forecasting tasks. This position works with minimal supervision as part of a team of actuaries to ensure a coordinated approach to the actuarial aspects of health programs. The analyst provides actuarial support to departments such as Network Management, Underwriting, Sales and Marketing, Finance, and Healthcare.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (where required)
  • 4+ years of experience in relevant actuarial experience. Related experience may be considered.
  • Must have completed 5 or more exams towards the eventual attainment of the ASA designation.
  • In lieu of meeting minimum exam requirements, may consider additional relevant experience.
  • In lieu of meeting minimum experience requirement, may consider ASA or more exams towards the eventual attainment of ASA.

Nice To Haves

  • Base knowledge of SQL and advanced Excel – Highly Preferred
  • Experience building complex financial models – Highly Preferred
  • Proven ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-actuarial stakeholders and senior management.
  • Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs qualitative and quantitative analysis of data to support development of rating plans and pricing for programs and products.
  • Evaluates moderately complex trend analysis.
  • Supports the rating process by determining the need for and building actuarial model enhancements.
  • Determines reasons for changes in calculated factors and communicates changes to internal stakeholders.
  • Reviews and observe appropriateness of actuarial formulae.
  • Transmits rate filings to regulatory agencies (NCDOI, CMS)
  • Supports valuation by modifying and executing the ALR model.
  • Performs ALR assumption studies and calculates impact on calculated reserves.
  • Supports development of UCL estimates.
  • Assists in the preparation of Annual Actuarial Memorandum, Premium Deficiency Reserve Study, and quarterly and annual statutory results.
  • Distributes established reports and responds to inquiries.
  • Investigates trends and anomalies.
  • Supports resolution of control exceptions and maintains control documentation.
  • Participates in requirements gathering for and serves as delegate or backup for corporate projects.
  • Generates ideas and analytical approaches for Departmental projects.
  • Plans, implements, manages and/or contributes to projects that are moderate/high complexity.
  • Is a participant in good standing in the Actuarial Development Program
