About The Position

Phipps Houses is one of the nation’s oldest and largest not-for-profit
developer/owners of affordable housing. It is a multi-faceted real estate
organization, involved in the development, finance, construction and asset
management of new and rehabilitated multi-family housing for low to middle
income New Yorkers. Through its subsidiary, Phipps Houses Services, Inc., it
conducts residential and some commercial property management, and it’s tax
exempt affiliate, Phipps Neighborhoods, provides human services to its
development communities.

Requirements

• Minimum five-ten years of real estate accounting experience (public and/or private)
• Excellent computer proficiency (Yardi, Excel)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
• Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting required
• Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given

Nice To Haves

• CPA preferred
• Experience with HUD and rental subsidies a plus

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries in accordance with GAAP for multiple properties
• Prepare complete set of workpaper schedules in accordance with GAAP
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations
• Prepare internal and audit ready financial statements
• Analyze and explain operating variances from budget
• Work directly with outside auditors
• Experience with HUD and rental subsidies a plus
• Respond to ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests as needed
