SUMMARY: The MS SQL Server Database Associate position is a full-time position from May to April for recent graduates of a bachelor’s degree in an area related to management of information systems, computer science, information systems, or related bootcamps. Associate Database Engineers will assist in the implementation and maintenance of database technologies and their related servers, including backups, monitoring, performance and tuning, production deployments, and capacity planning. In addition to the duties described above, the Business Analytics & Insights Associate will take part in the Vikings’ exclusive Leadership Development Program. This program will provide regular opportunities for professional development, exposure to organizational leadership and the ability to develop skills critical for the Associate’s future career growth. A fundamental part of the program will include clearly defined goals between the Associate and their Supervisor that will be tracked and measured for progress throughout the term of the program. This is a temporary full-time position that will begin in May, 2026 and conclude in May, 2027, unless otherwise determined.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server and its management tools.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing SQL queries, with basic understanding of SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and different types of JOIN operations
  • Basic knowledge of database management principles.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot common database issues.
  • Experience with digital preservation.
  • Basic scripting skills with knowledge of scheduled tasks and scripting for routine maintenance.
  • Strong research skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and ask questions.
  • Ability to maintain focus while working on several projects at once.
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, time management and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Consistently meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Design, write, and optimize complex SQL queries and stored procedures with a strong focus on accuracy, efficiency, and maintainability.
  • Thoroughly test stored procedures, queries, and database logic to ensure flawless execution and adherence to business requirements.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Perform critical database maintenance tasks, including backups, recoveries, disk space monitoring, and index/performance tuning.
  • Monitor and validate daily SQL jobs to guarantee successful execution and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
  • Assist with data integration and cleansing processes, applying validation to maintain data integrity.
  • Identify opportunities for architectural or process improvements and contribute to the design and implementation of those enhancements.
  • Collaborate on software development projects by providing precise database solutions and performance insights.
  • Troubleshoot issues related to SQL jobs, integrations, query performance, and SQL errors within internally developed applications, ensuring root cause resolution.
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail in all deliverables, recognizing that perfection is essential in this role.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
