About The Position

Akira Technologies is seeking a skilled SQL Database Administrator to support mission-critical database environments within a secure government setting. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining highly available Microsoft SQL Server environments, supporting database security and automation efforts, and mentoring junior personnel while contributing to team leadership activities. This role requires strong experience administering production SQL Server environments, implementing High Availability Group configurations, and ensuring compliance with DISA STIG security requirements. This is an onsite role supporting a government client in Fort Belvoir, VA up to five (5) days a week.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience supporting SQL database administration in production environments
  • Minimum 5 years of experience installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft SQL Server in High Availability Group configurations
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using T-SQL to develop: scripts, stored procedures, triggers, views, and supporting automation of maintenance functions
  • Minimum 3 years of experience serving in a team leadership role with experience on assigning and reviewing tasks, setting priorities, tracking progress, and validating team deliverables
  • Minimum 3 years of experience mentoring junior personnel
  • Minimum 3 years of experience planning and implementing database security controls aligned with: Industry best practices and DISA STIG requirements
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with SBI
  • Ability to obtain SI, TK, G, HCS, and NATO Secret accesses
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) – SQL Server 2016 or SQL Database Administration Certification (or equivalent)
  • DoD 8140.03 IAT Level II (Intermediate) certification required

  • Experience supporting Intelligence Community or DoD environments
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale SQL Server clusters
  • Familiarity with RMF-aligned system authorization environments
  • Experience supporting backup and disaster recovery strategies for classified systems
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid Agile environments

Responsibilities

  • Administer, support, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases in production environments
  • Install, configure, and support SQL Server environments using High Availability Group (Always On) configurations
  • Develop and maintain T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, triggers, and views to automate database maintenance and operational tasks
  • Monitor database performance and implement tuning strategies to improve reliability and efficiency
  • Plan and implement database security controls aligned with industry best practices and DISA STIG requirements
  • Support backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability planning activities
  • Assign and review team tasks, establish priorities, and track progress to meet mission deadlines and organizational objectives
  • Validate technical deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with program standards
  • Mentor junior team members on database administration techniques, troubleshooting approaches, and security practices
  • Collaborate with developers, system administrators, cybersecurity personnel, and program leadership to support mission objectives
