About The Position

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, the Sports Director will oversee and lead a variety of adult, youth, pre-school and parent-child programming at our Downtown location. This position will be responsible for the administration, coaching, and teaching of youth and adult sports programs, including leagues. The Program Director will work a schedule that includes some nights and weekends to support sports and additional programs and events across the Association.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in sports/recreation, education or health and wellness related field
  • 2-3 years of work experience with children, wellness, aquatics, youth sports and programming
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support sports, youth and family programming.
  • Ability to effectively handle conflict situations with children and adults.
  • A positive, friendly attitude and strong interpersonal skills as well as modeling for and growing those skills in others
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to communicate accurate information in a timely manner.
  • CPR and First Aid certified (or become certified within 60 days of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting, hiring, training and supervising staff to plan successful programming.
  • Developing diverse programs with options for all ages and skill levels at our downtown location as well as supporting programming and staff at our other locations as needed.
  • Establishing new revenue producing programs in all areas and expanding programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Responsible for all aspects of programming including scheduling, managing registrations, creating rosters, coordinating proper staffing, spearheading parent and participant communication, ensuring customer service standards are exceeded, and meeting program budget.
  • Working with staff and volunteers to address any issues in a timely manner.
  • Communicating with all staff to prevent scheduling conflicts and expand branch wide knowledge of programming
  • Assisting in the marketing and distribution of program information, organizing and promoting program registrations.
  • Assisting in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Participating in Association-wide program meetings, events and trainings
  • Represents and promotes the Y in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies.
  • Build a strong staff team through hiring, training, development, and supervision of leadership staff.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the operating budget and meets or exceeds budget expectations.
  • Provides primary leadership and operation of facility to ensure facility is clean, attractive, and risk free with appropriate and timely repairs. Maintains a high level of participant appreciation and satisfaction.
  • Develops and implements innovative programs to engage the YMCA members and our service communities.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes reports as necessary.
