Job Overview The AltaMed Physician Resident Program (Year 4) position entails the provision of patient care that matches the individual physician's level of training and competence. A physician resident’s responsibilities include patient care activities and educational activities within the scope of their clinical privileges and commensurate with their level of training. Expectations include attendance at clinical rounds and didactics, timely completion of medical records, compliance with all educational and record-keeping responsibilities, demonstration of proficiency in the core competencies and specialty milestones, and adherence to professionalism standards and ethical principles. All AltaMed Physician Residents in an ACGME-accredited training program are employees of AltaMed Health Services and must abide by AltaMed’s policies and procedures. Physician Residents are taught and evaluated according to the six (6) core competencies established by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME): Medical Knowledge, Patient Care, Professionalism, Practice-Based Learning, Systems-Based Practice, and Interpersonal Communication. Residents and fellows are also evaluated biannually on specialty-specific milestones according to ACGME standards and as indicated in AltaMed’s GMEC Resident Renewal and Promotion policy. As part of the professionalism competency, residents are expected to complete evaluations for each rotation for which they participate, including evaluations of faculty, peers, and the program.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet the qualifications as outlined in AltaMed’s GMEC Qualification of Applicant Policy.
  • All trainees must be graduates of a medical school in the United States and/or Canada that is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and have completed any pre-requisite accredited training specified by the ACGME Family Medicine Residency Review Committee.
  • Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), have completed any pre-requisite accredited training specified by the ACGME Family Medicine Residency Review Committee.
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications holds a currently-valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment; or, holds a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a United States licensing jurisdiction in his or her current ACGME specialty/subspecialty program; or, has graduated from a medical school outside the United States and has completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school
  • Completed program years one, two, and three (PGY1, PGY2, and PGY3)
  • The physician resident or fellow must have a current CA training or unrestricted license, a valid DEA number, plus other advanced competencies as deemed necessary for their level of training and specialty, including ACLS, PALS, and also to become involved in direct patient care.
  • A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.
