About The Position

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Sports Director, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Attendant is responsible for providing a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Attend the designated sports areas to emphasize sportsmanship in the gym and sports areas. Enforce member expectations which include but not limited to using appropriate language and actions towards others. Manage sports games in an organized and efficient manner to support safe play. Maintain cleanliness in the designated areas to ensure safety and kids first/members first presentation. Preserve gym equipment and storage areas. Tend to the scoreboard and stats during league games. Set up gym for appropriate programming such as volleyball, basketball, family time, and pickleball. Complete appropriate paperwork following our safety procedures. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. Performs other duties as assigned. Available for flexible hours including evenings and weekends are required. QUALIFICATIONS: Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid, New Leader Orientation, and online trainings as required. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Minimum age 16 required, age 18 and older is preferred. Six months or more of related experience preferred. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents. Must have a passion for learning, working with youth/families, and sports in general. Desire and ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking. Visual and auditory ability to respond to game situations and the physical ability to act swiftly in the event of an emergency. Must demonstrate initiative and sound judgment
