About The Position

Chetola Resort is seeking an experienced, service-minded, and operationally strong Sporting Reserve Manager to lead operations at the Chetola Sporting Reserve. This role is responsible for overseeing guest experiences, range and clubhouse operations, staff leadership, programming execution, safety standards, equipment stewardship, and the overall success of the Sporting Reserve as a premier outdoor destination within the resort. The Sporting Reserve Manager plays a critical role in shaping the identity and reputation of the Reserve by ensuring that every guest experience reflects the highest standards of hospitality, safety, professionalism, and outdoor instruction. This leader is responsible for creating an environment where guests feel welcomed, well cared for, and excited to return—whether they are first-time participants, repeat members or resort guests, group event attendees, or seasoned sporting enthusiasts. This role oversees daily activity operations including sporting clays, 5-Stand, archery, guided outdoor experiences, retail support, and clubhouse readiness. The Sporting Reserve Manager ensures that operations run smoothly from guest arrival through activity completion while maintaining excellent presentation standards across ranges, facilities, golf carts, utility vehicles, equipment, and guest-facing spaces. In addition to operational leadership, this role is responsible for coaching and developing team members, improving systems and guest flow, supporting sales and programming growth, and partnering with resort leadership to help expand the Sporting Reserve’s reputation as a distinctive luxury outdoor experience in the High Country.

Requirements

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in outdoor recreation, sporting operations, hospitality, guest services, or a related environment required.
  • Proficient computer skills required, including email, scheduling, and POS or booking systems.
  • Strong knowledge of firearm safety, range safety procedures, and responsible outdoor activity management required.
  • Ability to lead a team, manage day-to-day operations, and maintain strong service standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including professional phone and guest communication.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods and assist with physical operational tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with equipment setup, transport, and general operational readiness.
  • Weekend availability required, including holidays and peak resort periods.
  • Professional appearance and polished, guest-facing demeanor required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with POS systems, reservation platforms, or activity booking systems preferred.
  • Experience with shooting sports operations, sporting clays, 5-Stand, archery, or similar outdoor recreational programming strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading guest experiences, lessons, group programming, or activity-based operations preferred.
  • Retail, clubhouse, beverage service, or guest check-in experience is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications such as NSCA instructor certification, NRA certification, archery instructor certification, range safety certification, or similar training are preferred but not required.
  • Previous resort, private club, or luxury hospitality experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day operation of the Sporting Reserve, ensuring a safe, polished, and memorable guest experience across all activities.
  • Oversee daily guest programming including sporting clays, 5-Stand, archery, guided activities, and group outdoor experiences.
  • Ensure all guest interactions reflect luxury hospitality standards, professionalism, and a guest-first mindset.
  • Monitor the full guest journey from arrival and check-in through instruction, activity flow, and departure to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Partner with resort leadership to strengthen the Sporting Reserve’s identity as a signature outdoor experience at Chetola.
  • Maintain high presentation standards across all guest-facing areas including the clubhouse, bar, retail displays, seating areas, ranges, trails, carts, and support spaces.
  • Respond professionally and calmly to guest concerns, service recovery opportunities, weather-related adjustments, or operational changes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the guest experience, increase repeat participation, and elevate the overall quality of programming.
  • Lead, schedule, support, and hold accountable Sporting Reserve team members including attendants, instructors, and support staff.
  • Help recruit, onboard, and train staff to ensure strong instruction quality, hospitality standards, safety awareness, and operational consistency.
  • Provide coaching and direction to team members on service delivery, safety practices, professionalism, and guest engagement.
  • Ensure team members are prepared, properly equipped, and positioned to execute the day’s schedule successfully.
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, ownership, accountability, and pride in the Sporting Reserve operation.
  • Serve as the on-site leader for daily decision-making, staffing coordination, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in full alignment with safety standards, range procedures, and responsible equipment handling practices.
  • Oversee daily readiness of sporting clays, 5-Stand, archery, and any other active guest programming areas.
  • Conduct or ensure completion of all required safety briefings, equipment checks, and operational readiness procedures before guests participate.
  • Monitor range conditions, activity pacing, weather impact, and participant behavior to maintain safe operations at all times.
  • Ensure instructors and attendants consistently uphold proper firearm handling, archery safety, and strong situational awareness.
  • Address safety concerns promptly and escalate maintenance, environmental, or operational risks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records related to waivers, incidents, inspections, certifications, and operational protocols as applicable.
  • Support the planning and execution of private events, group outings, tournaments, beginner workshops, clinics, and corporate experiences.
  • Partner with resort leaders to expand programming that drives guest engagement, repeat visitation, and revenue growth.
  • Help identify opportunities for seasonal events, curated experiences, lessons, and outdoor packages that strengthen the Reserve’s offerings.
  • Coordinate staffing, equipment, timing, and logistics for group bookings and special events.
  • Support upselling and cross-promotion of Sporting Reserve experiences, lessons, retail offerings, and resort activities.
  • Contribute ideas that strengthen the Sporting Reserve’s positioning as a distinctive outdoor hospitality destination.
  • Ensure the clubhouse is clean, organized, welcoming, and consistently presented to premium resort standards.
  • Oversee clubhouse support functions including guest check-in, waivers, retail presentation, light bar service, and hospitality touchpoints.
  • Monitor the overall appearance and cleanliness of guest seating areas, service areas, restrooms, and support spaces.
  • Support retail operations including display standards, inventory awareness, basic merchandising, and guest assistance.
  • Ensure beverage and snack service areas are properly stocked, organized, and guest-ready.
  • Maintain strong communication with other resort departments regarding reservations, guest needs, events, maintenance issues, and operational updates.
  • Oversee the care, organization, cleanliness, and readiness of firearms, bows, arrows, safety equipment, clay throwers, carts, utility vehicles, and related operating supplies.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained, stored, and presented in a safe and professional manner.
  • Coordinate regular inspections and routine upkeep for Sporting Reserve equipment and operational assets.
  • Monitor inventory levels for ammunition, clays, arrows, targets, safety gear, retail supplies, and other essentials.
  • Report repair needs, maintenance concerns, or replacement needs promptly.
  • Ensure golf carts and utility vehicles are consistently cleaned, washed, and maintained to reflect premium standards and safe operation.
  • Support scheduling, reservation coordination, daily planning, and communication related to Sporting Reserve operations.
  • Assist with payroll inputs, staffing coordination, supply ordering, and budget-conscious operational decisions as assigned.
  • Track operational patterns, guest demand, and programming needs to help improve staffing and scheduling effectiveness.
  • Use booking systems, POS systems, email, and basic reporting tools effectively.
  • Help maintain organized operational records and ensure administrative follow-through on required tasks.
  • Communicate proactively with resort leadership regarding business needs, staffing considerations, guest feedback, safety concerns, and program opportunities.
