About The Position

SUMMARY OF JOB: The Spiritual Counselor is responsible for assessment of patient/ family spiritual and religious needs and coordination of the individualized plan of care. Provides spiritual care and counseling in accordance with the plan of care. Serves as a resource and support for the hospice team, the organization, and the community regarding spirituality and end-of-life care. Contributes some spiritual care services to Home Care, community-based, and bereaved clients. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Theology, Pastoral Care, Spirituality, Counseling, or similar discipline required
  • 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from an accredited center and/or comparable training/certification in Bereavement or Pastoral Counseling required; 4 such units preferred
  • One year or more of Chaplaincy, Bereavement, or Pastoral Care experience, preferably in a hospice, healthcare, homecare, or residential setting, required; one year or more working with terminally ill patients, preferred
  • Ability to provide nondenominational spiritual care to patients/ families from varied religious backgrounds
  • Demonstrate competency in religious and cultural diversity
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
  • Required to maintain behavior in the community consistent with high moral character
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of contemporary grief theory and professional competence in psycho-spiritual integration
  • Able to travel within assigned service area and occasionally to other markets
  • Valid Driver’s license.
