Under the direction of system leadership, the Spiritual Care Lead is responsible for the direction of all Spiritual Care activities on site. Provides oversight and is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and support to staff. The lead will manage the daily operations and staff in addition to serving as Spiritual Care representative providing direct, emotional, spiritual support for all patients, loved ones, and staff-for those who are religious and those who are not. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and Graduate Theological Degree (Master of Divinity or its equivalent); certification as CPE Supervisor by The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc.; ordination or certification by denomination in lay ministry / religious vocation; endorsement for institutional ministry by ecclesiastical authority; also board certification by a professional authority (by The Association of Professional Chaplains, The National Association of Catholic Chaplains, The National Association of Jewish Chaplains).
  • 3 to 5 years of healthcare chaplaincy experience including: direct pastoral care with the sick and their caregivers and intra- and inter- departmental administrative experience.
  • ACPE, Inc. Supervisor APC, NACC or NAJC Board Certified Chaplain
  • Demonstrated emotional and spiritual maturity sufficient to provide chaplaincy skills and leadership in complex multi-disciplinary and multi-faith tertiary care clinical settings. Demonstrated educational and administrative skill as a CPE Supervisor.
  • Sitting, standing walking, must be able to push/pull and lift up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Site Lead Responsibilities
  • Acts as a resource and liaison between local Spiritual Care staff and department leadership, assisting with management of day to day activities, assuring compliance with hospital standards and policies; assisting with hiring and on-boarding new hires; providing supervision, coaching and participates in disciplinary process as necessary.
  • Assists with departmental goal setting and evaluation of outcomes to ensure a continuous quality program of spiritual care.
  • Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review
  • Provides patients, family members and staff with emotional/spiritual support with respect to psychosocial, spiritual and cultural needs. Provides spiritual support during Palliative/End of Life/Hospice patient care.
  • Performs or arranges for religious functions in meeting the spiritual needs of patients and/or staff members.
  • Supports the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). If qualified as an ACPE (Associate), conducts the CPE program in accordance with ACPE standards.
  • Acts as a liaison with religious leaders in the region to ensure a continuity of patient care and collaborative relationship with the community of faith.
  • Assists in the development of Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) Spiritual Care policies and procedures. Responsible for communication and implementation of policies with local leadership at their assigned delivery network(s).
  • Leads and supports activities that enhance the patient experience. Maintains active membership on the hospital's Ethics Committee.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times during communication and interactions.
  • Performs other duties as directed to ensure smooth operation of the department.
  • Remain current with standards and innovations in the chaplaincy field and provide input regarding review, evaluation and modification of chaplaincy programs to meet the changing needs of the YNHH patient population.
