About The Position

The Speech Therapist conducts a variety of tasks relating to speech language pathology. The Speech Therapist is responsible for the supervision of all students within their assignment, is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustee’s policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Special Education Director or their designee. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
  • Must hold current Massachusetts professional license issued by appropriate licensing board
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to relate well to others.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in Speech Pathology preferred
  • Experience with related technology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and evaluates speech and language skills as related to educational, medical, social and psychological factors.
  • Identifies students eligible for services.
  • Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of students with communication problems.
  • Provides counseling and guidance and language development therapy to disabled students.
  • Reviews student information to obtain background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and to ensure adequate information is available.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
  • Develops and implements individualized plans for assigned students to meet individual needs, interests and abilities.
  • Evaluates and monitors assigned students.
  • Reviews treatment plans, and assesses student performance to modify, change, or write new programs to meet student needs.
  • Maintains records and documentation as required by law, Atlantis Charter School policy and administrative regulations.
  • Conducts research to develop diagnostic and remedial techniques.
  • Serves as consultant to classroom teachers to incorporate speech and language development activities into daily schedule.
  • Manages groups of students while providing for a variety of learning styles and ability levels.
  • Integrates technology to enhance student progress.
  • Conducts parent and/or staff professional development workshops related to speech and language therapy best practices when asked by administration.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
